To steal a line from Our Lord and Savior, For ye have the louts and the imbeciles we thee always.ReplyDelete
Since you're reminiscing, FreethikerReplyDelete
Could be Ann Romney performing for the largest RNC bundlers.
Indeed we will, if Gary Johnson is elected!ReplyDelete
Obsenity levels everyone to the lowest common denominator.ReplyDelete
Ooops wrong thread!ReplyDelete
Not really, Thersites.ReplyDelete
If you look at the video, obscenity rears its ugly head right at the beginning of the clip.
What could be more obscene than loutish insensitivity and indifference to beauty and refinement?
Beauty in this case stands her ground and ultimately tames the beasts.
I wonder, however, if that could happen today -- or if it ever happened at all outside the realms of fantasy and wishful thinking?
I get the point of the clip you linked, Canardo, but as usual, it refers to something pointedly grotesque and ironic that's irrelevant to the point I made in posting Irene Dunne singing After the Ball.ReplyDelete
The not-unattractive blonde groaner in your clip sounded to me like a bad imitation of Marlene Dietrich.
You really do adore the celebration of vice, degeneracy, corruption, disenchantment and despair, don't you?
One will never don the hats of Tanagra if it not the fashion, FT. And the "passions" for such "fashions" are no longer the "style". It appears "in-authentic" and the "opposite" of common. And "common-ness" has not yet become the penultimate modern virtue.ReplyDelete
erratum - bad link for "common" above...ReplyDelete
Believe me, Freethinker, in Fassbinder's Bundesrepublik Deutschland trilogy the ball is most decidedly over.ReplyDelete
Bathe in urine all you like, Canardo, and call it rose water, if you like.ReplyDelete
Meanwhile, I will continue to bathe in rose water, as I always have, and laugh when I hear you refer to it as urine.
You think it enlightening and oddly ennobling to absorb yourself in the odors of unwashed perinea and axillae. The stench of food particles rotting twixt unbrushed teeth fills you with exaltation.
Perversion, depravity, sadism, and the life of the gutter -- the sick sour stench of defeat and despair enliven you, while you defame and disregard all that is beautiful, high-minded, finely crafted, sweet-natured.
Sick! Sick! Sick! That's what you are.
Unless you're putting us on, which I hope for your sake you are.
Meanwhile, I give you my personal honorary award:
DOCTOR of DEGRADATION and DESPAIR
Interesting that no one saw fit to comment on Irene Dunne's costume -- a grotesque, unflattering get-up that had, as far as I know, no historical precedent.ReplyDelete
