A Wry Memorial
The Swarthy Ones took over;
And made weapons of four planes.
The riders had no cover;
They suffered dreadful pains
That ended once their deathtraps
Burst into roaring fires
Turning instantly to mere scraps––
Cinders––made of former flyers.
The burning towers crumpled,
And fell into the street.
New York was more than rumpled;
Briefly, it knew defeat.
The nation drew together;
We felt collective grief.
Anger broke its tether;
To express it gave relief.
But only ten years hence
We're at each other's throats;
We've built ourselves a fence
Over which the Devil gloats.
We've failed to give the orders
To build a proper wall
Sealing off our borders
To the fiends who’d have us fall.
Instead, we've made division––
Went to war against ourselves––
And are mired in derision
Sparked by partisan elves,
Who forget this blessed land
In pursuit of powers lost
In close elections manned
By fraud. So, tempest-tossed
The country is in turmoil.
The enemy's our own.
He says it's all for Big Oil,
And he'll soon usurp the Throne.
The heap of twisted rubble
Raising toxic fumes for weeks
No longer gives us trouble
Because of media leaks
Designed to throw us off the scent
Of whom we need to blame
And encourage ruinous dissent
That hopes to break the frame
That holds us all together
And preserves our liberty,
So many now doubt whether
We really should be free.
And each rabble rousing louse
Should 'neath these words be pinned:
"He who troubleth his own house
Shall inherit–––the wind"
I particularly like this line: Cinders––made of former flyers.
Those first brief weeks of unity following 9/11 are long gone. **sigh**
In many ways, Al Qaeda won. **sigh again**
We haven't learned anything...ReplyDelete
Thank you Free Thinker for leaving this in the comment section at Rational Nation.ReplyDelete
A wry Memorial indeed, as a people we have yet so very much to learn.
Unfortunately the divisions that have grown amongst the people, fueled by fears of some perceived boogeyman has our house once again divided against itself.
Perhaps AOW is right, Al Qaeda won after all.
Thank you, Les, but there really ARE "bogeymen" out there that make these things happen.ReplyDelete
We just can't seem to agree as to who they are, and act accordingly.
Because I am genuinely OLD, I am, indeed, an "anachronism," as Finntann rudely accused me of being over at Silver's place.
When my parents were young -- and during my pre-adolescent years -- we were VERY sure of ourselves as a people, knew who we were, and were not in the least afraid to act with swift and often deadly force against known enemies -- and even those merely SUSPECTED of belonging in that camp just to remain on the safe side.
Cultural Marxism, which has deeply affected even many of our most vehement self-styled conservative-libertarians by the incessant subconscious brainwashing techniques employed by the media and the education and entertainment industries, has rendered us feeble, indecisive, so afraid of being called a "racist," and of being considered "unfair," by the ruthless bigots, who falsely bill themselves as The Antidote to Bigotry, we're practically defenseless -- ripe for the plucking.
Once a people have been seduced, tricked and euchred into giving up their identity by those who are fiercely aggressive in demanding THEIR "right" to maintain THIER identity, it's all over but the weeping, wailing and gnashing of teeth.
We've been effectively CASTRATED by Political Correctness, and don't seem to understand why we suffer so from chronic pains in the groin.
GOD! How I pity our CHILDREN and GRANDCHILDREN. They are destined to be little more than galley slaves.
My only hope these days is that I may be permitted to end my life as I am living it now without being marched off to a Re-Education Center manned by the likes of Finntann. (:-o
I had hoped to have it ready by the crack of dawn, but was unable to put it together in time.
Better late than never, I suppose.
Silver, that IS the problem.ReplyDelete
I loathe and despise Bob Dylan, a real YUCK POO if ever there was one, but admit he achieved a degree of profundity when he asked, "When will they ever learn?"
The sad, sad, sad answer, of course, is "NEVER!"
As my eleventh grade Civics teacher said, "The lesson we learn from History is that we learn NOTHING from History."
Fifty-four years later I have yet to see anything to indicate that he was incorrect.
Your anachronistic curmudgeonly friend,
As a person who loves history and once thought of teaching history I agree with your civics teacher.ReplyDelete
Those who fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it.
Marx isn't really the problem because collectivism is doomed to failure. The worship of the state as the answer to our problems is at the core of our national malady.
Our willingness to look to others (the state) rather than being self reliant and willing to weather the storm through hard work and perseverance is our major problem.
That and multiculturalism that pits one culture against another rather than focusing on American culture and unifying the nation. The great melting pot that was once America, and it truly was, has become the antithesis of unity. Rather the great melting pot has become the cancer that is called divisiveness.
I fear for my grandchildren.
Thank you for this fine post as always,ReplyDelete
Not to change the topic, But Lets take a look at today's news!
The situation around the Iranian nuclear program has been getting more, and more heated every day. Ahmadinejad threatens to wipe Israel off the face of the earth every time he has the chance to speak. And our relations with our one time best ally Israel has never as cold as it is today. In fact just today it was reported that the White House (and the White House really means Barack Hussein Obama) DECLINED NETANYAHU'S REQUEST TO MEET WITH OBAMA. How's that my Jewish friends? Still what to vote for this man? Still impressed with him? What this man has done to this country is unforgivable.
Today Egyptian protesters raided the US Embassy in Cairo, climbed over the gates and tore down OUR flag burned it, and replaced it with a Black Islamist flag to protest a U.S. produced film that they didn’t like! The mob was chanting that our ambassador must leave.
Is this why Obama took part in overthrowing Hosni Mubarak's regime?
Also tonight reports from Libya say that gangs of militants also attacked the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi with rocket-propelled grenades, and stormed the embassy. The United States ambassador to Libya, J. Christopher Stevens, and three other Americans were KILLED! They also protested a Movie film they denounced as blasphemous. They attacked our embassy, shredded our flag, and replaced it with the al Qaeda flag.
All this over a Movie! Is that why Obama helped to KILL Moammar Gadhafi? Is that why Obama wanted to replace the Libyan Government with the Muslim Brotherhood?
Thank You to Barack Hussein Obama and Hillary Clinton, for what you have accomplished!
I was always under the impression that TO ATTACK ANOTHER COUNTRY’S EMBASSY IS AN ACT OF WAR.
Is beheading Americans worse then making a film that is not to their liking?
And the lefties are very quite over all of this, it seems as if a Pizza maker from a little unknown town in Florida who was took part in a staged a Photo-Op, picking Obama off the floor in a loving hug drew more attention than any of the above. I hope that they are Happy Now!
It certainly is telling when a pizza hug for Obama gets more press than the slaying of an American Ambassador.ReplyDelete
Looking the 7th century on the eyes and flinching. Perhaps Savage is right. Maybe the west should turn the purveyors of hate in the Arab and Persian world onto flaming infernos. Just a fleeting, yet justified thought methinks.
I will remind you, Rational Nation, that the so called "film" that sparked all this was the production of Terry Jones and an Egyptian Copt living in America.ReplyDelete
The bait was taken by a splinter Al-Qaeda group which is hoping for a military response to the attack in order to reconstitute itself.
The violent extremists on both sides need each other and WANT a military attack.
Remember, the fringe right is run by feelings and the left is here to help you learn to lead the life of the mind.
Thank you, Debonair Dude, both for your kind words and for presenting a topic which certainly should draw our attention, even though I think it's a long established canard that Israel's best interests are intertwined with our own. That notion has been so firmly planted in our minds by the ceaseless machinations of AIPAC, it has almost become synonymous with Motherhood and Apple Pie in the minds of Americans.ReplyDelete
It is the vehement, virulent, violent denunciation and persecution of CHRISTIANITY that concerns me primarily.
Whether we like to admit it or not, the modern Jewish state was definitely FOISTED on the Arabs by The West.
I think the Arabs' reaction to it has been excessive, ridiculous and tragic, but the fact remains that OUR insensitivity to and lack of concern about the ARABS' feelings is responsible for producing the Migraine Headache the Middle East has given US ever since 1948.
We should have known better than to kowtow to the interests of an historically anomalous people, who proudly and ostentatiously regard themselves as Singular, Exclusive and Superior, and who cannot seem unable to avoid drawing resentment and animosity wherever they go.
The establishment of modern day Israel effectively waved a proverbial red flag at the "bull" that is the Arab World.
Everyone concerned ought to have had better sense.
You can blame Hitler for that one too, if you like. Very likely it never would have happened without his profoundly evil deeds.
Ducky, please stop acting the part of Devil's Disciple and Chief Advocate. It ill becomes you.ReplyDelete
Read my article called ENEMETICS published some time ago in these pages. It will help you understand yourself -- and the rest of us -- a great deal better.
Be of good cheer,
