Do you likegreen eggs and ham?I do not like them, Sam-I-am.I do not likegreen eggs and ham.Would you like themhere or there?I would not like themhere or there.I would not like them anywhere.
A Joeseph McCarthy look and think alike jackass. Yeah, that sums it up nicely. And accurately.
I like Ted. He mentioned "prisoners of conscience" like Leopoldo Lopez in Venezuela, but I worry that he would support American interventionism. For this reason, I much prefer other American leaders with more limited visions.
In other words, I worry about politicians more concerned with foreign policy than domestic.
Lord and Lady Drozzletail saidI see Registered Nurse is now posting as "Anonymous." God in Heaven, what an ass she is!
I liked Ted's insightful little quip at the beginning about someone climbing the fence at the White House and being collared and told he couldn't do that because he still had two more years left to serve in his term. He must realize that any President serves the interests of some hidden power behind the throne, living life in a fish bowl with every word, thought and action carefully monitored. Any deviation from the script he has been given will result in at first a gentle nudge to push him back into line. Continued deviation from the script will result in stronger actions to ensure said script is being followed to the letter.Ted Cruz does make strong allusions to those that must be recognized if his pursuit of becoming President are to transpire successfully. So one should conclude nothing much would change, just as nothing much ever changers from one Presidency to the next. And what of his allusions to the founding documents of the country, the Declaration of Independence and Constitution? Being that Cruz was born outside of the country, and one of the specified constitutional qualifications to becoming President: Being a natural born American would disqualify him from being President. Or would he just do an end run around the Constitution?
I think he is a man of great intellect and many talents, but he has squandered them all shooting seltzer down his pants for the rightwing peanut gallery. He'll never be president because over half of the country will never vote for him based upon his thin record in the Senate. And did you see footage of him scolding the Christian refugees? He may be a smart man, but he does dumb things. He and Sarah Palin should have a show on Fox together.
We all do dumb things, SF. The problem in this country is, when Republicans do them they are headlines, and when Democrats do them...
Barrack Obama, for one, also took Nietzsche's quote to heart."Talking much about oneself can also be a means to conceal oneself."I saw a notice on a church sign this am when walking the dogs... "Only a fool speaks his whole mind"
"half of the country will never vote for him based upon his thin record in the Senate."Senator "Barrack Hussein Obama". Nuff said.
FJ: Wise words in this thread, as always. As to your comment above this one, I'll refer you to your earlier comment. The GOOPers are pushing uphill against an entrenched double-standard.Cruz is well-educated and intelligent, but he is politically stupid. He is not known for his legislative skills, but rather for his grandstanding provocations.
You don't get your name in the papers by crafting good legislation... else Paul Ryan would be a top 2016 contender.
There's little power in the Law itself. Voters care about the SuperEgo BEHIND the law, directing its' enforcement, making the "exceptions" that lie in prosecutorial discretion.
If Ted Cruz is looking for a great campaign idea he might start by exposing what's behind this ISIS "present danger" that has the military brass brass tumescent with the idea of a war for as far as can be seen into the future.Nothing like a smidgen of truth in a political campaign but I doubt if Ted Cruz would have the cojones for this:"A Kurdish officer said of IS, “Everything they have is American – it is all the latest equipment with the big guns, the Humvees.”"
Now that America, "the land of the free and the home of the brave" has violated the territorial integrity of a sovereign nation, Syria, isn't it about time that we recognize that the country founded upon the principles of the Founding Fathers has been usurped by a cadre malingering evil doers who in reality are the exact opposite of the Founders of the country, and who represent the exact evil that the Founding Fathers envisioned a having the potential to destroy the shining vision on a hill that was represented by the country that was left by those Founding Fathers? Here's the last Republican Presidential candidate, "John McCain", in some photo-ops preserved for those that care to understand the real terror being imposed upon the planet today...
He sounds more like a preacher than a politician and a darned good preacher at that.Belinda Aufkopfer

So true, for as long as I can remember YOU were in her corner. And stood up for her through think and thin, and now the Chicken have come home to roost. Don't believe me? Just read the words that that Octopussy said sbout you!
FreeStinke, you continue to display the colors you really really are.Allowing trashing of all you disagree with, revelling in slander and BS.As cesspools go your's is deep with Stinke.Keep on Stinken.
People will believe whatever they want to believe regardless of any evidence that might be presented to the contrary. Apparently, that is just a Fact of Life. It may be the primary reason why life is such a fundamentally sad experience for most.Whenever we substitute MY will for THY will, we are headed for serious trouble.
A right wing populist is no better than a left wing populist
Life is a challenge, it csn be difficult and a struggle at times. At the same time it is interesting, intriguing, provides unlimited opportunities, rewarding, and on balance beautiful. And it has everthong to do with MY will and nothing to do with thy will. thy will is a cop out of divine order.

As far as the left is concerned Ted Cruz is a 3 headed monster. Most republicans only have 2 heads
I like the way he fearlessly talked back to the liberal Christians who tried to shout him down for supporting Israel. I like the way he filibustered the Obamacare vote even though his own party bosses didn't want him to. I have a feeling we will need a fearless leader in 2016 just to take on the colossal mess we will be facing. We need more people like him.
I feel the same, FF. I just can't understand why so many who are supposed to be on "our" side dislike, distrust and reject Ted Cruz. Too many Republicans act as thought they are afraid -- or somehow weirdly think it unethical -- to go after the Demonrats hammer and tongs.
Must be that they aren't as adversarial as you are in their approach to politics.
That's exactly right, Jez, and that is precisely what is so very wrong with both "THEM" -- and YOU. ;-)Eliminate opposition, which is what the Left has always tried to do by any means fair or foul, and we quickly lapse into tyranny. The Beautiful Dream of a World United, in perfect harmony under the yoke of collectivist, anti-Individualist, anti-private property, anti-wealth, ideology where everyone shares all resources equitably and all people are regarded and treated as EQUAL regardless of their character, disposition and degree of capability does sound very attractive -- especially to the weak, ill-favored, and ineffectual. Unfortunately, the Delightful Dream shatters immediately as soon as the realization sets in that an earthly paradise must be instituted and maintained by voluntary loss of liberty for all. This woeful condition inevitably is brought about by main force -- i,.e. the constant threat of incarceration, torture and execution for anyone who opposes "Big Brother" -- or whatever euphemistic term the Regime in Power may choose to label itself.
Apparently, you never read -- or if you did, never comprehended -- my article entitled ENEMETICS, published here two years ago, did you?By appearing to hold himself far above the fray, Cleese automatically places himself apart from -- and ostensibly superior -- to all those who don't "buy" his thesis. Ergo, he too shows himself to be a kind of extremist, and thus exacerbates the problem he would have us believe he would prefer to solve and thus eliminate.Of course, we are supposed to think Cleese, being a well known comedian, is merely being funny. Perhaps so, but I suspect what he outlines may very well be close to his true feelings. And that appears to be the belief that having strong convictions of any kind is inherently evil and therefore dangerous. It never seems to occur to people of his apparent sort that holding such an opinion in itself constitutes a passionate conviction, does it? ;-)By the way, I found so many FAWLTS in Fawlty Towers, I couldn't bear to watch it. I've never seen anyone work so hard -- and so fruitlessly -- in a vain attempt to produce laughter in his audience as poor Cleese. When it comes to Comedy produced for the BBC and exported to the USA for apparently permanent consumption on PBS, I much prefer Waiting for God. The charmingly rebarbative personality of Diana, brilliantly portrayed by Stephanie Cole, wins my personal award for genuine, heartfelt amusement, despite many of the supporting characters being limned with far too broad a brush to be credible. Diana consistently conquers arrant nonsense like no one else precisely because she steadfastly refuses to suffer fools gladly regardless of the consequences.
Is it possible to criticise discourse without holding onesslf above the fray, at least briefly? If not, let us forgive it this once.Yes, i think Cleese is sincere. I don't think anti-extremism is itself a form of extremism, until you start trying to ban it. Merely raising objections is not extremist I don't think Cleese is damning all forms of strong conviction, only those that involve ascribing absolute evil and/or total blame to scapegoats. I posted it because this is just the kind of undisciplined hyperbole (to borrow your phrase) into which you frequently lapse.
Think whatever you like. I'll be polite and keep my thoughts to myself -- for now.
Fawlty Towers must be enjoyed on its own terms, as a series of mini farces, richer in plot than it is in character. It is inaccurate to describe Cleeses' efforts as fruitless, he has been exceptionally successful. For you, I recommend a recent BBC comedy "Rev." I don't know how available it is in the States, but it's a realist portrayal of an Anglican inner city vicar. It is, I think, riotously funny and refreshingly thoughtful at the same time.
As has oft been said, "There's no accounting for taste."Please, let's leave it at that.
