Clinton Accused of Faking Illness to Avoid Testifying on Benghazi

Illary Clinton?

Republicans may use Benghazi to spearhead attacks on outgoing Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

December 19, 2012, 3:01 p.m.

The State Department slammed former United Nations envoy John Bolton over his suggestion that Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton falsely claimed a concussion to avoid a potentially embarrassing appearance before Congress to explain the deadly terrorist attack on the U.S. mission in Benghazi, Libya.

In an appearance on Fox News, Bolton said that Clinton’s claim that she had fainted because of the flu, hitting her head and suffering a concussion, was what foreign service officers call a “diplomatic illness,” intended to free a diplomat from an unpleasant duty. Clinton was supposed to appear before congressional foreign affairs committees on Thursday to respond to questions about whether security failures opened the way for the Sept. 11 attack.

“This is a diplomatic illness to beat the band,” said Bolton, who served during the George W. Bush administration. “I mean, I hope it’s nothing serious. But this was revealed in a way that I think was not transparent and I think there is an obligation here.”

Victoria Nuland, a State Department spokeswoman, insisted to reporters Tuesday that suggestions Clinton faked her illness are “completely untrue.”

She said that Bolton and others who have questioned the concussion “are people who don’t know what they’re talking about.”

“It’s unfortunate that in times like this people make wild speculation based on no information,” she said.

Clinton’s withdrawal from the hearing has prompted speculation that she is trying to finish her term as chief diplomat without suffering any criticism for the attack. Clinton has said she does not intend to serve in President Obama’s second term.

The secretary, considered a top Democratic presidential contender in 2016, declined to appear on Sunday talk shows five days after the attack, which killed the U.S. ambassador to Libya, Chris Stevens, and three other Americans. Instead, the job went to U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Susan Rice.

Republicans have attacked Rice’s comments on those shows, saying that she was trying to avoid political fallout by saying that the attack was a “spontaneous” crowd reaction rather than a calculated terrorist attack.

The announcement that Clinton will not testify has been received skeptically by conservative bloggers and commentators. Fox News described the injury as a “purported concussion.”

Clinton said Monday in a letter to the committee that she would respond to the committee’s questions in January.

Is the truth in her to tell?

What do YOU think?

  1. Wow. I guess saying *anything* to disparrage your political foes isn't just limited to Harry Reid.

Even if you truly believe in your heart that she faked the concussion, you don't say that out loud--at least not to the media. This guy officially will be labeled an asshat from now on, I'm sure.

It's like politicians have no sense of dignity anymore.

  2. It feels like Watergate all over again. **sigh**

Can't concussion lead to memory loss? So it seems.

From Concussions: Post-Traumatic Amnesia May Indicate More Severe Injury, Longer Recovery:

An athlete can experience two types of post-traumatic amnesia (PTA) after a concussion: anterograde (reduced ability to form new memories) and/or retrograde (partial or total loss of the ability to recall events before injury). Anterograde amnesia is considered an important indicator of more serious injury and may be associated with slower recovery.

Anterograde amnesia is characterized by a reduced ability to form new memories after a brain injury, which may lead to decreased attention and inaccurate perception. Anterograde memory is frequently the last function to return after the recovery from a loss of consciousness (LOC). Following the recovery of consciousness patients may be unable to recall little or anything that occurred for days, weeks, or even months after their injury.

Retrograde amnesia (RGA) is characterized by the partial or total loss of the ability to recall events that occurred during the period prior to brain injury. RGA may extend backwards for seconds, minutes, hours, days, months or even years depending on the severity of the injury. The symptoms of retrograde amnesia may improve over time....

Did Hillary really suffer a concussion? Doesn't matter! She's now got the legal defense she needs, IMO.

  3. According to the WaPo, she will testify in mid-January.

Let's see if she actually does so or if, by then, other in State have taken the fall for the screw ups in Benghazi.

  4. ....anybody find her billing records on Benghazi, yet? Or will we have to wait ten years for her to leave them on the office copier?

  5. Jack,

It sounds as though you believe it's better to roll over, play dead and let ourselves be steamrolled by the dictates of Political Correctness than to insist the truth be revealed regardless of consequences, is that correct?

Frankly, I would be much more in favor of giving public figures the benefit of the doubt, myself, if only that privilege were not reserved almost exclusively for Democrats in Power and Out.

Republicans, Conservatives, Libertarians and even the more vocal Independents are held to an entirely different, far much rigorous standard by the enemedia and other Power Blocs.

If you haven't seen that for yourself by now, perhaps it's time you came out of the closet and frankly admitted that you are at heart a Liberal Democrat.

I hardly regard myself as a doctrinaire anything, but I long ago realized the Bible is correct when it says, "No man can serve two masters, for [inevitably] he will grow to love, and respect one but despise the other."

It's another way of saying "a house divided against itself cannot stand."

  6. Is it even faintly possible that either of the Clintons could ever tell the truth about anything?

    THAT is the question?

I have no difficulty whatsoever in believing John Bolton. He's one of perhaps two or three others left who could even recognize the Truth if it sank its teeth into their rumps.

The rest are so steeped in the predominant Washington Culture of Corruption, Treachery, and Deceit their souls must be regarded as lost.

If you even WANT to believe Hillary Clinton is on the square, it might be a good idea to take a few lessons in how to reduce toxic levels of naiveté. ;-)

  8. So because I expect politicians to have a little more class, because I deride them for engaging in ridiculous slander, that means I'm a big political correctness guy?

This guy's accusation against Hillary Clinton is just as childish and slanderous as Harry Reid's accusation against Mitt Romney.

Calling out both sides for being loud-mouthed morons doesn't make me a liberal democrat.

  9. Hillary does look deathly ill in the top photo. But the bottom photo she seems to look like her bitchy-witchy self.

Looks more like an internal Democrat night of the long knives coming on. Don't Republicans have a penchant for snatching ignominy from the jaws of victory? Simply by letting the thing play out a bit more would be wiser that stepping into this and trying to gain something politically by fanning the flames from the sidelines, IMO.

  10. Yeah Waylon, let it play out like the birth certificate.

Please, this is nothing more than political flatulence.

    Jack has it about right.

  11. I don't know FT. Unless you photoshopped in all of those wrinkles and chins in the first pic, she might be sick. She sure does looks like SHIT. I suppose that could be from a concussion, or maybe she's just starting to look on the outside, like her personality, haggard old WITCH.

  12. Bolton is a VERY solid citizen, Jack.

The Clintons have built their careers on chicanery, lechery, cupidity and the most adroit form of prevarication I've ever seen. Their sangue froid leaves me breathless. It's almost as though they are not fully human.

He came from -- almost literally -- from chicken shit.

She's been a bossy, presumptuous, opportunistic bitch on wheels all her life.

There is only one word to describe both of them and that is VILE.

  16. Happened to catch this from this morning. I have to say I've never heard of Tim Huelskemp until I saw him interviewed here. He's more what I think a conservative should be about than the conservative representative, Joe Scarborough, on the show.

One thing he left a lasting impression on the good folks at "Morning Joe" as they continued talking about him long after he left. He'll likely be the subject op many out of context diatribes from the comrades at MSNBC.

After he left Scarbrough went on about gun control and asking if those who think they should own combat style weaponry will be able to look out their window and defend themselves against a drone. That itself is revealing thinking: He seems to be OK with the state using drones against its own citizens, although these types drone on and on about the tyranny of Assad in Syria using military force against the "rebels" there.

  17. So lets talk about Benghazi, I’d love to. I for one have had it with these sick, twisted, brain dead leftist/progressive radicals who are so blinded by their ideology that they don’t even care about the security of this nation, and will do everything say anything including backing up the lies of their beloved leader and then supported his re-election. . It is absolutely outrageous how far they will go. Just listen to them here on these blogs and just read the CRAP on their own blogs You would think that Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan was running this country and having their Secretary of State and their UN Ambassador parading out in front of the TV cameras LYING this ass’s off for the sake of their Messiah. They are extremely dangerous to this country, and must be voted out. Obama told us that he wants to bring the perpetrators to justice. How about bringing his own Administration to Justice?
This is worse than Watergate, no one at Watergate was murdered, and Watergate was not an Act of War! I hope that Romney and Ryan called these liars out in front of the nation and the world, bur it didn't mean a damn thing.
And that Smirking Monkey Biden saying that it was the fault of the Republicans for cutting the funds for security at the embassy. Another lie by that Smirking Jerk.
This bunch of people are so incompetent it’s a wonder that more people haven’t died. If Obama, Hillary and Rice had the love for their country that Nixon did and if they had any class the three of them would step down, and the news media should be harping about this nonstop. It’s time for a statesman like Romney to be put in office and not the Liberal/Progressive gang of hoodlums.
And another thing: They blamed a stupid video for this attack, instead of calling it what it was, a terrorist attack. And by saying that it was the “Video” that cause the other riots all over the Mid-East on our Embassy’s. If you recall, there were about 25 other riots following the ones in Libya and Egypt, because of Obama telling them about the “Film” prior to that these scum-bags didn’t even know that a “Film” even existed.

  18. "The people have always some champion whom they set over them and nurse into greatness . . . This and no other is the root from which a tyrant springs. When he first appears, he is a Protector. . . In the early days of his power he is full of smiles. . . When the tyrant has disposed of foreign enemies . . . and there is nothing to fear from them, then he is always stirring up some war or other in order that the people may require a leader. . . Has he not also another object . . . that they may be impoverished by taxes and thus compelled to devote themselves to their daily wants and [be] therefore less likely to conspire against him?"

    ~ Plato (427-347 B. C.)

And there you have in a nutshell. The understood so much four-hundred years before the Birth of Our Lord, Jesus Christ, yet here we are today making the same stupid mistakes again.

"The lesson we learn from history is that we learn nothing from history."

    And ain't it a shame?
