YOUR INTERPRETATION?
Is this an accurate portrayal of the situation
in the Middle East, or not?

Please give us reasons for your opinion.

  1. Methinkes that you are missing a few Octopi in your cartoon. The one with an Uncle Sam hat comes to mind, along with the one with a "retreating" Soviet Commissar hat.

Could Iran not just be a chimera magnified out of all proportion by the Israel lobby (AIPAC) to keep the US feeding Israel's military machine? And isn't the presence of the Jewish State, itself, something that was imposed by Western powers in order to appease the Jews after the Holocaust, a thorn in the side of the region?

  2. When we think of intelligent animals, fish or other types of living things what comes to mind are dolphins, apes and of course dogs. However when we think about the World's DUMBEST and UGLIEST living species, the (O)CT(O)PUS of corse wins the First prize, hands down.

There are those who would say that intelligence is a human standard and that animals, fish etc, cannot be evaluated on such terms. But I have never encountered anyone who would disagree that the (O)CT(O)PUS is truly the most ugly, filthy, stupid creature known my man, full of venom and hate, and the most appalling of all.

Well, you have now. They're incredibly intelligent, shape shifting, beautiful animals, capable of learning and bar a few species non-venomous. Re. hate, methinks you're projecting. Animals don't know hate but they love food!

    2. Hello, Gert,

The joke here may be on you. When you see O)CT(O)PUS spelled in that peculiar fashion it does not refer to the remarkable tentacled sea creatures you –– and I too –– admire. Rather it makes reference to an abrasive blog personality headquartered at a notoriously obnoxious blog that shall in these precincts remain nameless. The blog owner there and I used to be friends, despite the vast differences in our political orientation, but the pseudo-cephalapod, who has a Svengali-like hold on my (former) friend, acted the role of a jealous, malignantly spiteful mother-in-law and managed to break us up.

      Sic transit gloria mundi.

    4. Perhaps, but surely as an person of obvious intelligence, you could have discerned that the insult was not truly aimed at the creature in question but at a blogger, or possibly some public figure, who bears its name? Is that not so?

At any rate, stick around, and you will doubtless get to be an "insider" –– not that I, personally, make any such distinctions among our readers.

  3. My thought go along the lines of Thersites. There are other creatures in that sea, but yes, about Iran, that is accurate.

The control the Hezbos who are choking Lebanon, they prop up Assad, they are supporting the rebels in Yemen and Bush opened the door to them in Iraq by taking out Saddam, and Obama has ushered them in.

    Yes.

Thersites makes a good point. Particularly as to Uncle Sam's hat. Being that is the one we have control of. Theoretically anyway.

    1. Please never again use "being that" –- at least in the context of this blog. The expression at which you were aiming so clumsily is best covered by the word SINCE or even BECAUSE.

  7. Do all octopi stink like (o)ctopussy?

    1. No. Octopus has a wonderful flavor, and makes mighty good eating if you know how to cook it (see our archives for several excellent recipes). Init's larger forms, however, octopus is nothing any sane person would want to tangle with in the briny deep.

It is often used a symbol of deadly danger and made the stuff of nightmare visions.

  8. Well of course it must be "accurate" since it's the image portrayed by the one dimensional Western media.

And he is shown wearing a black turban, obviously not a "good guy" or even a "good goy".

  9. The US/European and Russian octopodes in the Muddled East are far, far larger and far deadlier than the Iranian variety.

But Iran is the country we're all told to hate. Most sheople oblige.
