King Solomon, who wrote Ecclesiastes

http://www.phoenixmasonry.org/historypage.htm
Ecclesiastes: Chapter One
(King James Version)

... Vanity of vanities; all is vanity.
What profit hath a man of all his labour which he taketh under the sun?
One generation passeth away, and another generation cometh: but the earth abideth for ever.
The sun also ariseth, and the sun goeth down, and hasteth to his place where he arose.
The wind goeth toward the south, and turneth about unto the north; it whirleth about continually, and the wind returneth again according to his circuits.
All the rivers run into the sea; yet the sea is not full; unto the place from whence the rivers come, thither they return again.
All things are full of labour; man cannot utter it: the eye is not satisfied with seeing, nor the ear filled with hearing.
The thing that hath been, it is that which shall be; and that which is done is that which shall be done: and there is no new thing under the sun.
Is there any thing whereof it may be said, See, this is new? it hath been already of old time, which was before us.
There is no remembrance of former things; neither shall there be any remembrance of things that are to come with those that shall come after.
I the Preacher was king over Israel in Jerusalem.
And I gave my heart to seek and search out by wisdom concerning all things that are done under heaven: this sore travail hath God given to the sons of man to be exercised therewith.
I have seen all the works that are done under the sun; and, behold, all is vanity and vexation of spirit.
That which is crooked cannot be made straight: and that which is wanting cannot be numbered.
I communed with mine own heart, saying, Lo, I am come to great estate, and have gotten more wisdom than all they that have been before me in Jerusalem: yea, my heart had great experience of wisdom and knowledge.
And I gave my heart to know wisdom, and to know madness and folly: I perceived that this also is vexation of spirit.
For in much wisdom is much grief: and he that increaseth knowledge increaseth sorrow.

A Small
Wickedness

This is a story about something trivial. I tell it only because it indicates a cheese paring stinginess and cupidity in Industry today that exemplifies a dearth of good sense and basic decency in every strata of society.

Believe it or not, I’m talking about dishwashing detergent –– or rather the packaging thereof.

I’m a bit stingy myself, but I prefer to call it thrifty. I like to save a buck whenever I can on the purchase of basic necessities, and I abhor waste. So, naturally I gravitate towards places like The Dollar Tree where every item in the store is a dollar –– no more –– no less. If you know what you’re doing, you can save a good deal buying there. If you don’t, you can wind up spending a dollar on something isn’t worth 10¢. That’s how they make their money.

They depend on a large segment of the population who “Don’t Know Shit from Shinola,” are proud of their ignorance, and have no desire to learn anything new, to continue happily to waste their money on out-and-out junk.

You might want to all that “wicked,” but I prefer to call it “stupid,” and leave it at that. There is no cure for stupidity, and it could never be legislated away.

What has me in a lather right now is the sudden change in the way dishwashing detergent is now bottled. Up until recently, you could unscrew the cap, add a little hot water to the contents stuck at the bottom of  the bottle, and get enough suds to wash three or four more loads of dishes. It gave my thrifty nature a nice glow of satisfaction to be able to say I had used every last drop of the product before throwing the container away.

Well, guess what “they” must have read my mind,  rubbed their hands together, chuckled demonically in unholy glee, and said to themselves, “We’ll fix THAT fellow. He won’t get the better of US anymore.”

And so they made the CAP stationary, and replaced the neat little pull out nipple with a cheesy plastic flap. The RESULT? We now are forced to WASTE that small-but-significant amount of the product.

Such cheese-paring practices not only frustrate and annoy canny consumers like me, when multiplied by the millions they also further damage the ecology by adding significantly to the toxic chemical waste that alarmists are always telling us will eventually make the earth unfit for human habitation.

For want of a nail a shoe was lost ...”

A small wickedness like this might be nothing more than a trifling annoyance if it only bothered me, but once you realize it literally affects millions, I think it’s worth fussing about.

This familiar packaging is now obsolete.
 Take a good look next time you shop.

FREDDIE GRAY

Oft we have heard of Freddie Gray,
And, when we crossed the town,
We chanced to see at break of day
His blood still raining down.

No mate, no comrade Freddie knew;
He lurks forevermore, ––
A sadder apparition few
Will see in Baltimore!

Oh you may spy the Dregs at play,
With Crack and Coke obscene;
But the tortured face of Freddie Gray
Will never more be seen.

“To-night the monkey on my back,
Says downtown you must go,
And take my pipe to fill with crack
To pushers with my dough.”

“That, Father! Will I gladly do;
‘Tis not long after noon ––
The Hopkins Clock has just struck two,
You’ll get your pipe filled soon.”

At this the Father roared and shook,
Then snapped out what he’d planned
“Begone and quick,” so Freddie took
The Meerschaum in his hand.

And hither towards the dens of vice;
With many a wanton stroke
Poor Freddie took his sire’s advice,
He knew it was no joke.

But riots rose before their time,
As Freddie wandered down,
And many hills did Freddie climb
To reach the flaming town.

The wretched father all that night
Kept cursing loud and vile;
But there was no one wrong or right
To neutralize his bile.

At day-break by his door he stood,
Peered towards the Inner Harbor;
And in a looking glass saw he should
Visit soon a barber.

Dejected now he turned, and cried
"I hope in Heaven we’ll meet!"
As on the pavement he espied
The print of Freddie's feet.

Then downward from the steep hill's edge
He tracked the footprints small;
Right to the edge of a stone ledge,
Atop a high stone-wall;

And then an open lot he cross'd,
With cans and bottles strewn;
He tracked the prints, nor ever lost,
Until it was high noon.

He followed through the cur-sed spots
Until he reached an alley,
A place of many dried blood clots
Deep in a shadowed valley.

Poor Freddie’s footprints disappear'd
He ne’er was seen again
Though many said they greatly feared
He’d died in screaming pain.

Yet some maintain that to this day
He is a living Child,
That you may see poor Freddie Gray
His body undefiled.

Through Baltimore he trips along,
In sunshine rain and wind;
And hums a plaintive little song
Denying he has sinned.

Did Freddie Gray deserve to die?

Silly Songs I Loved in Childhood

I Didn’t Know
the Gun Was Loaded

The Andrews Sisters
[NOTE: The three Andrews Sisters (LaVerne, Maxine and Patty) started their careers during the 1930s. They were born in Mound, Minnesota USA. Interestingly, the three girls had different vocal ranges, perhaps a bit unusual considering the fact that they were all born within 7 years of each other (soprano, mezzo and contralto). The Sisters were known for their outstanding support of the allied troops during WWII, working onsite as well as recording on V-Discs. They performed over the radio and made numerous personal appearances on TV as well as many charitable functions. They cut over 700 songs, selling over 90 million records.]
Patsy Montana

Oh Miss Effie was her name
Through the west she won her fame
Being handy with the gun
But she drove the men insane.
'Cause she'd whip out her pistol
And shoot most any guy
And sing out this alibi.

I didn't know the gun was loaded
And I'm so sorry my friend
I didn't know the gun was loaded
And I'll never, never do it again.

But one night she made a slip
Shot the sheriff in the hip
So the law, it took a hand
And made Effie take the stand.
And she pled, "Oh, your honor
I'll know you'll turn me loose
When you hear my one excuse."

I didn't know the gun was loaded
And I'm so sorry my friend
I didn't know the gun was loaded
And I'll never, never do it again.

I didn't know (she didn't know)
The gun was loaded (that the gun was loaded)
But regarding the gun that I toted.
All I did was hold it high
And go (4 simulated firing sounds)
I'll never, never do it again.

Yes, the jury all agreed
That Miss Effie should be freed
But the sheriff's jealous wife
Was indignant (yes, indeed)
So she borrowed a pistol
And shot this village belle
And sang as Miss Effie fell.

I didn't know the gun was loaded
And I'm so sorry my friend
I didn't know the gun was loaded
And I'll never, never do it again.

I didn't know (she didn't know)
The gun was loaded (that the gun was loaded)
But regarding the gun that I toted
All I did was hold it high
And go (4 simulated firing sounds)
I'll never, never do it again.

Which
is the Real
Pamela Geller?

YESERDAY, amidst a lively discussion at Always On Watch, BAYSIDER gave a most balanced, thoughtful and benign commentary on the thorny, controversy Pamela Geller’s tactics regarding the now-infamous Cartoon Competition in Garland Texas have aroused.

BAYSIDER: "SF, I like what you said about civil rights and an appeal to shared religious and cultural values. But I don't agree in this sense: The jihadis are telling Americans to take our civil rights to the back of the bus and shut up. Look at what that ridiculous [London-based] cleric said on Hannity the other day –– that Geller deserves the death penalty. Un uh! ... [L]aws from some backward, illiterate, piratical pedophile DON'T apply here! In that sense, it's appropriate to compare Geller to Parks who would not give up her seat ..."

FT: I hope our friend, Silver Fiddle, understands that CEDING (i.e. giving up, abandoning) OUR Laws, Values, Customs, and Mores to favor or accommodate what-amounts-to an AGGRESSIVE, HOSTILE, INVADING FORCE determined to DISPLACE "us" –– and everything we've loved, lived by, and stood for –– with THEIR warped, brutal, demented, utterly barbaric notions of what constitutes Right and Wrong should be regarded by ALL of "us" here in the the West as TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE.

There can be NO COMPROMISE with EVIL. PERIOD! No one can play games with the Devil and hope to win.

Pam Geller in my opinion is making an honest effort to DRAW OUT the viciousness and brutal savagery INHERENT in the followers of ISLAM. In so doing, Ms. Geller is helping to bring AWARENESS of the clear and present DANGER the very presence of ISLAM means to what-we-used-proudly-to-call The American Way of Life.

Islam is a dire THREAT to CHRISTIANS, a dire THREAT to JEWS, a dire THREAT to our Constitution and to the principles espousing Maximum Freedom for the Individual on which this nation was founded. Most of "us" are far too complacent, too trusting, –– too LAZY –– or frankly too STUCK on prissy notions of LEGALISTIC, LITERALISTIC interpretations of basic Principles, and too HUNG UP on arid, theoretical notions of ETHICAL PROPRIETY to summon the wherewithal to DEFEND and SECURE OUR INTERESTS decisively and effectively

Ms. Geller is more than a ROSA PARKS figure, I would say she is much more like a latter-day PAUL REVERE.

I know "everyone" likes to regard FreeThinke as an immoderate, unrealistic "crank," because of his repeated statements advocating DIDADIN, and his insistence that Jews eventually must take full responsibility for the inroads and hideous depredations Marxian, atheistic Jewish Intellectuals have wrought in these United States –– and throughout the West –– and stop the reflexive, ritualistic dismissal of their honest critics as "vicious anti-Semites."

FreeThinke is SEVENTY-FOUR years old. This does not mean he is more intelligent than others, but it DOES mean he has lived long enough to be able PENETRATE the dense FOG –– the MIASMA –– with which the Enemedia-Entertainment Complex ... has confused us. We the People have been deliberately enshrouded in poisonous mist for so long now that younger members of our tribe, even though they may sense the injustice, absurdity and counter-productive nature of the policies under which we've been forced to labor, cannot see the Big Picture as we, who've experoenced better times, most certainly can.

"Once fully enslaved, no nation, state, city of this earth, ever afterward resumes its liberty."

~ Walt Whitman (1819-1892)

"The ultimate result of shielding men from the effects of folly is to fill the world with fools."

~ John Tyndall (1820-1893)

It would never be my pleasure to be able to say, “I told you so.”
