ReplyDeleteI think the whole family could well be described as "nice," Silver, but as POLITICIANS very franky, every one of them left much to be desired.
DeleteBut this is not the right time to discuss politics. Out of respect for the deceased,–– and for her grieving husband of SEVENTY-THREE years ––, for once let us all try to proceed with as much grace, dignity and good decorum as possible,
I believe we owe at least THAT much to Mrs. Bush –– and frankly to OURSELVES as well.
Apparently the senior George Bush remained with his wife constantly durng her final hours. They were holding hands when sh.e breathed he last.

People like her should be increasing in numbers not leaving life.
We need her common sense and love. Your poem is so well phrased. How do you crank out these wonderful pieces? Does it take you part of a day or only a few hours?

Oh thanks, Bronwyn, I don't see my ability to write acrostic sonnets as anything all that special. God gave me an uncanny facility with words. It showed up (I've been told) in my highchair days. ;-)
DeleteI was able to read whole books by age four, and started writing soon thereafter. Both my parents wrote very well, themse;ives. My mother was a true lyric poet; my father had a great faciliity for writing witty doggerel – a talent he used often to memorialize special occasions in the lives of family and friends. Neither parent took his talent seriously enough. Writing verse was just something they did for pleasure.
Whatever it is I have, I'm sure I inherited from them. I've just done a lot more of it, maybe because I am not as gifted as they were in ther more important areas..

DeleteI –– like most people –– always found Barbara Bush extremely likeable.
ReplyDeleteI don't care much for the things "pundits," "scholars," "historians," "critics," and "political operatives" say ABOUT anyone. However, I do care a great deal how the person in question comports him or herself in public.
I always got "good vibes' from Barbara Bush. If she was a termagant behind the scenes, I don't want to know about it.
As far as I'm concerned, Mrs. Bush was by far the most appealing First Lady in my lifetime, and my life began under Frankin Delano Roosevelt, whom I actually do remember. };^)>
