How Cultural Marxism
Destroys Education

Professor Thomas DiLorenzo
Thomas James DiLorenzo (born August 8, 1954) is an American Economics professor at Loyola University Maryland Sellinger School of Business. In this clip, he talks about how leftists switched from Economic Socialism to Cultural Marxism and how this affected education, especially at universities.

Recorded at the Mises Circle in Dallas-Fort Worth on 3 October 2015. Full talk licenced under creative common: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JS3tt...

    1. Unsubstantiated opinion is even more worthless than "shallow analysis," mein Freund.

    2. It's shallowness doesn't deserve a refutation. A refutation would imply more "seriousness" than it deserves.

    3. But let me humour you, just for a moment. The environmental Left wasn't born, as the video implies, in 1989 when the wall fell. "Watermelon" socialism and the Green Party has been around a lot longer than that. It was born out of the "New Left" in the 60's with Rachel Carson and her DDT banners.

    5. The subkect of CULTURAL MARXISM's profound deleterious influence on our culture IS o paramount im/pirtance.

Frankly I chose DiLorenzo's video, because it was SHORT. In my view it GHT to have been used as a springboard for discussion of CULTURAL MARXISM not of the video, itself, which I agree is not particularly dynamic or persuasive.

      Oh well ...

    6. ps - I read Marcuse's "Eros and Civilization". He succeeded in decontextualizing his quotes.

    7. Cultural Marxism hs resulted in Cultural Capitalism. Until it's critics realize THAT, we will go no where in curing the disease.

It lies at the CORE of today's marketting strategies.

    9. One of Zizek's clearest statements. Of course, I many troubles have arisen, because the Left (mostly) keeps inventing NEW MEANINGS for OLD TERMS, and making up NEW TERMS out of WHOLE CLOTH to describe old phenomena all the time.

It's a great technique for creating confusion, anxiety and generating a feeling that one might possibly be losing one's mind.

Jordan Peterson made clear to me that Post-Modernism is really just anoher name for Cutural Marxism.

What you seem pleased to call Culture Capitalism is really just a clever way the Left has devised to MASK a radical leftist agenda to convert the populace to Radical Environmentalism, Veganism, Hysteria over Climate Change, living in TINY HOUSES no more that 120-200 feet square, while feeling terribly GUILTY about driving automobiles, heating and air conditioning homes to comfortable levels, abandining sewers for composting toilets (outhouses!) which to me boils down to making Neo-Prmitivism not only fashionable but new MORAL IMPERATIVE.

I'm pretty sure the root of this particular evil may be found in the person of a man called Edward Bernays –– known as the father of the modern advertising industry –– i.e. Mass Hypnosis via organs of Mass Communication.

I don't know about you, FJ, but I believe that ALL of this ESS-AITCH-EYE_TEA is rooted directly in the Cultural Marxist movement as originally conceived by Gramsci and the Frankfurt School –– as demonically clever a group of sophists as ever lived.

You see what's happened I'm sure. We're getting all steamed up about SUPERFICIAL, essentially TRIVIAL things to such an extent the BIG, MPORTANT issues wind up getting IGNORED.

And please don't think THAT has happened by ACCIDENT. It's the result of decades upon decades of guile, craft, plotting, and devilishly clever manipulation.

As Ecclesiastes said thousands of years ago, "There is nothing new under the sun."

All we do is keep coming up with new names for the same old ESS-AITCH-EYE-TEA.

    10. No, the situation is much worse than your imagination. It's not a Leftist plot. It's a symptom arising from the logical outgrowth of the capitalist system. Post-modernism isn't simply another name for cultural Marxism. Post-modernism is another (related) logical outgrowth of modern capitalism, born from the concept that "the customer is always right" and married with the emergent welfare state.

If the customer is always right, who can command him? Certainly not the manufacturer. Surely not the customer's own "father". The customer will brook no "master" or "higher authority". His (the "customer's) "feelings" are all that matter. This unwillingness to bow to a higher authority, THAT is post-modernism. It's a "certainty" in the customer's belief that "he is right". That the manufacturer need and must accomodate him, not visa versa.

Modern man (from the 1920's-late 50's) wasn't that "certain". He instinctively knew that had to obey the men he worked for, to follow their orders, or there would be no work or means of earning a living. He NEEDED a "recognized authority" to direct his social contributions. He (in the 40s & 50s) knew of and had no "welfare state" that would support him. The illusions/beliefs of the post-modern man (of the 1960's) operate under no such limitations/ restrictions.

So when the 60's came, capitalism "bowed" to the nascent post-modern customer and began contributing to and sustaining social "causes". It was no longer enough for a company who's brand he purchased to produce a needed product. It had to accomplish a peripheral "social-cause" utility as well (saving the planet/feeding the hungry).

THAT is why America is so divided today. Modern man gave to charity. Post-modern man expects the public-economic sphere to do his charitable work (social goods) for him.

So until you reign in capitalism so as to prevent it from supporting these "peripheral causes" you will continue to divide Americans into two classes, those who do "charity" in the economic sphere for themselves, and those who would do "charity" in the economic sphere for "others".

Madison's "Memorial and Remonstrance" warned previous generations of Americans of the dangers of using government to perform charity for others. The dangers of having corporations do this was not spoken of. But THAT is what we have today. Cultural Capitalism (not plain old Capitalism).

    11. ...and no denunciations of "Marxism" will have an effect until corporations are taken to task. Legally, corporations must earn money for shareholders, not contribute to social causes. The Benefit ('B') corporation is a relatively new invention (allows corporations to seek benefits "other" than "profits".)

    12. Until we reform the capitalist "system", we will never undo the damage that cultural Marxism has inflicted. For it has already been incorporated INTO the capitalist economic system.

      Delete
    13. Even worse, until we reform GOVERNMENT (to destroy the welfare state), the post-modern "idea" of an all-powerful consumer will continue to corrupt or society. We must bust not only large "corporate" trusts but even more importantly, bust the large "government" trusts as well.

      Delete
    14. We've adapted capitalism to reduce the effectiveness of the Marxist "critique". But in doing so, we screwed our legal/governmental/economic systems with precedents that are now VERY hard to undo.

    15. All right, FJ, but iless you want to say that the Industrial
Revolution begat the brand of Capitalism that made our country and most of the Western Nations The Envy of the World, which in turn gave birth to Hegelian-Marxism, a perverse philosophy based n the legitimization and glorificatiin of Hatred, Envy, Spit, <lice and Vengeance, ––– a broad, generalized analysis with which I agree, I don't think you could claim that "CAPITALISM" –– as you seem inclined to define it today –– is responsible for the conditions under which we labor today.

MARXISM, which I admit must have been developed as a REACTION to Industrialization and the problems it brought with it, is STILL the thorn in the foot, the rot at the root, the cancer in the brain of society today.

As I pointed out above –– or tried to –– the infernal device of CHANGING the MEANING of terms long in common use is one of the many inimical techniques the Left introducd to spread Doubt, Confusion, Distraction, Discontent, and Dismay –– their evil way of SOFTENING UP a population otherwise resistant to their deceptive, sophistic blandishments and evil ideology.

If you read me right, NOTHING could be WORSE than the process I outlined. Our differences are not philosophical, they are SEMANTICAL.

    16. PS: I admit to being averse to newly created vocabularies –– i.e. trendy terminology –– devised by "intellectuals" eager to impress the world with the "freshness" and "cleverness"of their ideas.

I resist this BECAUSE I still believe good standard English is perfectly adequate to explain problematic phenomena which have in fact been around since The Year One.

Education? Communist active measures, Communist Subversion, Communist Indoctrination without any pushback from the parents - who I assign the greater % of blame to for allowing this BS to not only happen but progress with wild abandon. They don't deserve to live in "America".

  5. As for you Lib’s calling for Trump to be impeached for “Firing Andrew McCabe, get your act together, Trump didn’t fire him

The FBI's Inspector General and the FBI's Office of Professional Responsibility thoroughly investigate their own. And McCabe was recommended he be immediately fired for "numerous violations".
The FBI's Office of Professional Responsibility is full of McCabe friends. And yet still they recommended that he be fired. If fact his behavior was SO bad that McCabe he still might be in federal prison for lying to the FBI within the year.
If you can remember, Martha Steward was caught lying to the FBI and Slick Willy was caught lying Congress. That's why he was impeached.

McCabe’s former boss James Comey was such a liar that he made McCabe look like a choirboy. McCabe knew all about the lies and corruption going on at the highest levels of the FBI by Comey all the time.

Hopefully when facing criminal charges he will start singing like a bird and we can get some more of these left-over Obama Administration Democrats. They all need to be in jail. McCabe will 'lay low' for a year after he gets out of prison and then start popping up on CNN/MSNBC as an 'expert, and write a book.'.

  7. Why Isn't The Liberal Media Saying Much About the Maryland Shooting?
Is Donald Trump’s sex life, of 10 years ago is more important.
Could it be because the Shooter was stopped by the schools resource officer Blaine Gaskill who was stationed inside the school, and who was alerted to the shots being fired, and pursued the shooter, engaged the shooter, and shot the shooter?

No the Liberal Main Stream Media isn’t saying too much about THIS story! Could it be because they have no interest in following it up on it because it doesn't fit their agenda?
Why isn’t his name on every front page of every newspaper this morning ?
And why isn’t he isn't being interviewed by CNN? And it won’t help their narrative!
And this time nobody died but the shooter, thus there is not much interest and it does not help their ratings!
Almost every person with a gun who intends to murder a lot of people is stopped by someone with a gun. The Maryland school today was no exception, this just proved that the best way to stop a Bad Guy with a gun, is a Good Guy with a gun.
