Trick or treating, barren branches claw
On rooftops ‘gainst the biting Autumn air.
Jack O’Lantern flickers. Would he gnaw
An arm away, or set aflame the hair ––
Conspicuously real above the masks ––
Kindling Kindergartners at the door?
Only Satan’s own perform such tasks,
Leering, lisping, limping as to war.
Awake! All Hallows Eve lets loose the ghosts.
No one escapes the Grave for long. Be wise.
The Jack O’Lanterns flicker on the posts ––
Each one a sentry for the Lord of Flies.
Run home to mother lest the Evil One
~ FreeThinke - The Sandpiper, Autumn, 1996
I loved Night on Bald Mountain long before I saw Fantasia. Perfect background music for reading Stephen King!
ReplyDeleteMy Halloween plans this year: attending a prestigious theatre group's production of Dracula.
Looking forward to this evening!
Enjoy your performance tonight, AOW! Just be sure to wear a string of fresh garlic around your neck and bring a sizable Silver Cross to fash at the stage lest the Creature get too close for comfort.
DeleteEvil spirits MUST be kept at bay, you know. (Cackle cackle cackle!
<);^D
Have a tricky-treat-full day, FT! :)
ReplyDeleteAh yes... soon, very soon it shall be Ms. President. Recovery continues to improve.
ReplyDeleteTonight's the night for celebration; 28 years of marital bliss!
Fine wine and exquisite cuisine awaits consumption; followed by deserts delights.
Happy Halloween to all.
As we await coming debates and boredom.
Another magical Krone attributing what little "recovery" there is to policies, instead of its rightful heir, reduced oil/energy and gasoline prices....
DeleteHere is a SCARY, narcissistic, self-absorbed, corrupt, and lying WITCH who believes she is above the law that governs the little people like you and me; and apparently believes she is entitled to be President because she may have had sex with Bill, but even that's doubtful.
ReplyDeleteToday’s October 31st and that means everyone’s focused on Halloween. But something else so very important happened today integral in the advancement of individual freedom and classical liberalism -- and not the post-modern progressive Marxist/socialist crap that we see on the Progressiv's blog day after day either. It was on this day, October 31st, in 1517 an Augustinian monk named Martin Luther nailed his 95 Theses to the door of the church in Wittenburg, Germany. Luther began what was to be known as the Protestant Reformation. He was declared a heretic, and Emperor Charles V ordered Luther apprehended and imprisoned, with possible death sentence, for not submitting to the Roman Catholic Church of Pope Leo X. Luther was protected and safeguarded by one Prince Frederick the Wise, Elector of Saxony. Luther died in 1546, and that year Charles V made an agreement with Pope Paul III to crush the Reformation.
ReplyDeleteAnd that's the rest of the story!

ReplyDeleteThank you for visiting my blog and sharing your magic. I apologize for not visiting sooner. I have enjoyed your poetry, my friend. I wish you would compile a book.
ReplyDeleteHappy Halloween!
Andie
Never apologize, Andie. If I have MAGIC to share, you have pure ENCHANTMENT. I do wish our respective commenters would INTERACT more with us –– and each other. It rarely happens, but I am one of those odd people who is determined to get whatever good may be gotten out of almost any set of circumstances. I know you are too. I only wish I had half your energy! ;-)
DeleteHope your Halloween was lots of fun.
It does sound like the GOP and the Tea Party are preparing for, and expecting another defeat at the hands of the American electorate. Perhaps they will retain the house by a slimmer majority and an even slimmer in the senate. But FOX and it's highly partisan biased op ed folks with their talking points are working extra hard to turn the tide.
ReplyDeletePresident Trump. Get used to the sound of it, cuz you'll be hearing it often over the next nine + years. :)
DeleteCorrection - The next year and a few days.
DeleteAmerica is not going to elect the Donald president.
Nominate Shrillary, then get back with me. :)
DeleteNominate Trump, I won't have to. :)
DeleteCuz he'll be President. :)
DeleteStomp, sometimes you make sense, but too often you show a determination to taunt and sneer. We can tolerate legitimate criticism, but out-and-out Fabrication and Defamation are unwelcome. I am hardly a devoted fan of FOX NEWS, –– they're far too supportive of RINOS and Liberals for my taste ––, but weak as FOX is, it represent the ONLY outfit in the travesty that purports to be television news that even PRETENDS to be even-handed.
DeleteTalk about PARTISAN! ALL the others are RABIDLY devoted to promoting Marxian-Fabian-Communist-Socialist-Progressive-Liberal-Statist TYRANNISM by any means fair or foul –– mostly the latter.
Anyone who refuses to admit that is either a FIEND or a FOOL who is impervious to REASON as well as DEAF, DUMB and BLIND to REALITY.

ReplyDeletePerhaps that explains why they're winning. ?

DeleteIf we elect that witch, every day will be Night of the Hellahag!
