And seeing the multitudes, he went up into a mountain:
and when he was set, his disciples came unto him:
And he opened his mouth, and taught them, saying,
Blessed are the poor in spirit:
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are they that mourn:
for they shall be comforted.
Blessed are the meek:
for they shall inherit the earth.
Blessed are they which do hunger
and thirst after righteousness:
for they shall be filled.
Blessed are the merciful:
for they shall obtain mercy.
Blessed are the pure in heart:
for they shall see God.
Blessed are the peacemakers:
for they shall be called the children of God.
Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness' sake:
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you,
and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake.
Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven:
for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you.
Blessed are the peacemakers:
ReplyDeletefor they shall be called the children of God.
Amen!
Maybe the day will come when all humankind is worthy of these words.
May America lead the way.
Peacemaking is laudable as long as you don't conflate or confuse it with surrender to tyranny.
DeleteWolf, meeting with a Lamb astray from the fold, resolved not to lay violent hands on him, but to find some plea to justify to the Lamb the Wolf's right to eat him. He thus addressed him: "Sirrah, last year you grossly insulted me." "Indeed," bleated the Lamb in a mournful tone of voice, "I was not then born." Then said the Wolf, "You feed in my pasture." "No, good sir," replied the Lamb, "I have not yet tasted grass." Again said the Wolf, "You drink of my well." "No," exclaimed the Lamb, "I never yet drank water, for as yet my mother's milk is both food and drink to me." Upon which the Wolf seized him and ate him up, saying, "Well! I won't remain supper-less, even though you refute every one of my imputations."
ReplyDeleteThe tyrant will always find a pretext for his tyranny. ~ Aesop
Aesop was wise, indeed, for his time, but Alas! he did not have the benefit of having a chance to know Jesus Christ.
DeleteYou will probably be appalled to know that I did a little rewrite on the beatitudes for a loud, hard, rock song called "Beat-itudes" back like 20 years ago. It killed live. I remember the first line of the main verses, "Blessed are the Dope-Heads," LOL! Good times... It was a lyrical tribute updated for today's hapless souls, but it went a little further, and the last line opened with "Blessed are the Evil" and strangely enough, that always drew a cheer, like they really got the point. I should produce that song one day. Thanks to you, I think I will! ;)

What a twisted freak
DeleteNow THAT is class!

DeleteBEAT IT, DUDE!
I suppose I ought to scold you, Jersey, but frankly you just crack me up when you act like this. "Peck's Bad Boy" is who you like to think you are.
DeleteI suppose it bugs you when people tell you, "God loves you anyway," but I assure you He does.
I suspect you may still be redeemable, and HE never gives up on ANYONE.
LOL! Okay you classy guys. Got it. You got your little tiny pieces of class you put up proudly on your little mantles and imagine you're the little Swabian in the snow globe that it is casting aspersions on all the big scary twisted figures you see through the thick curved glass.
DeleteI've got new for you conservative morons - I'm always more polished than any of you on your best day, I would never be seen in public around people who say the sorts of slovenly things you guys say on a regular basis, and when I performed that song live, hundreds of people, mostly college kids, loved it, and they got the point, which is exactly that redemption is there for all, you pseudo-intellectuals.
And FreeThinke, it's lovely to say things like that, even if it's just blatant passive-aggressive silliness.
JMJ
You're not in "public" now? Who knew? ;)
DeleteJersey McJones, Spoken like the classless, irredeemable boob that he is.
DeleteJersey, even though I love satire, often paint with a broad brush, myself, sometimes use vulgarity when I'm ticked off, and am not above burlesquing on occasion, I would never say anything in that particular vein I did not mean.
DeleteI do wish you'd stop marring your own credibility and giving yourself a bad name by calling everyone with whom you disagree "silly morons," etc.
I think you have a right to express yourself as you choose, even if it does make you sound obnoxious, so I usually let your stuff remain, even though others don't like it.
FYI: I don't lump you in with the group most so-called Conservatives love to ridicule unmercifully, and I always filter out specific references to that particular group whenever i see them, because after having earnestly tried and failed to bridge the gap between us –– a well mean effort that wound up making me the target for much abuse from ALL factions –– I don't want to see any of them, their names, and certainly none of their comments quoted here.
Very funny, FJ. BINGO!
Jack, I disagree with you about Jersey. He's just playing a character part. Please don't let him get your goat. He's not really mean-spirited, nor is a he stupid. He's just oriented a bit differently from you and me.
FreeThinke dear boy, I for one would never target such a charming man as yourself for abuse. It is amusing to watch such a patient and cultured man try to domesticate a great ape.
DeleteBeats trying to tame a venomous snake -- or a scorpion.
DeleteLOL! Love the psychoanalysis at the end, there!
DeleteBeing old-fashioned doesn't make you refined. Sure, it's a sign of refinement that a person would recite poetry, or enjoy a fugue, but if they then proclaim the sorts of right-wing silliness you guys emit?...
Yeah, I'm in awe of the classiness. You want it both ways - refined/town drunk in a bad mood at the bar.

Hello Dear Friend!
ReplyDeleteThough we have been busy, I have thought of you often. Hoping you are well.

Andie
It's good to see you back, Andie. Please visit more often.
DeleteBack when I was in elementary school in a Christian school, all of us had to memorize this passage and write an essay explaining the practical application of these Beatitudes. Very worthwhile activity!
ReplyDeleteexplaining the practical application of the Beatitudes
DeleteThat is what I was hoping respondents would try to do. Faith and precepts devoid of practical application are hollow and meaningless.
Better an honest cynic than a pious hypocrite.
So, I'm driving home from work and I'm behind a car with three inch red lettering on the bumper "Hechos 2:38"... took me awhile ;)
ReplyDeleteACTS 2:38
Delete"Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost."
Darned good advice, if you ask me. ;-)
To Bert Boozer the Bouncer, who said BEAT IT, DUDE!
ReplyDeleteThat was a very funny. Just thought you'd like to know someone noticed your cleverness.
Applying the Golden Rule never hurts anyone.
Please use scientific data to back up you arguments, not just your own miss-guided opinions. . You are not going to learn to understand or even engage the honest mind here at this Republican web-site.
ReplyDeleteGoing to the Liberal or the Progressive web-sites where it is entertaining and will also give you insight as to the mentality but, commenting on those sites may be as useless as the national Republican blogs.
I like to use the Liberal blogs and news sites to find ammunition of counter arguments and facts to use in the local blogs. Always be courteous and do not allow yourself to be baited.
They fit the description of your post to a Tee Party.
The right-wing Republicans are of the worst kind.
Beyond that, it was a good rant.
The Liberal blogs are more important as they are more grass roots, enable more flexible opinion and thinking.
Don’t be misguided by these holier than thou repubs who are so righteous... A lot of Christians wear crosses around their necks. You think when Jesus comes back he's gonna want to see a cross? That's kinda like going up to Jackie Kennedy with a rifle pendant on.
And these are the same folks who are for abortions.
I will attempt not to respond further on this, as I realize it's off-topic. However if you are interested in hearing the truth, go to http://progressiveerupts.blogspot.com/
Progressive Eruptions Where Shaw Kenawe Tells it like it is! The TRUTH.
Well, FT, you've inspired a first. I never heard anyone refer to the Beatitudes as "a rant" before. That is unique. Frankly, I'm surprised you tolerated this bit of gobbledy gook. I have t admit, however, there is something faintly amusing about people who think they know how to write and can't.
