I've found that most humans lack the maturity to accept other humans who hold opposing views.
ReplyDeleteVisit Crooks and Liars, and you'll see a perfect example of the circle jerk that is groupthink. Then go to Ace of Spades and you'll realize that it's not a quality relegated to any particular ideological bent.
Humans like to feel as though they belong, and the sharing of ideas between like-minded individuals is something that is very comforting to the masses who, for the most part, are incapable of coping with cognitive dissonance.
So it's no wonder that many here are trashing Jersey and would rather him not comment at all. It's fairly amusing, because most of them would likely decry the idea of Fascism, yet they practice many of its tenets in their everyday lives.
Sad irony: the most depressing brand of irony out there.
(I also have noticed his absence, and I do wish he would return.)

Jack Camwell, you make valid remarks that show a great degree of maturity. Introspection does not come easy for many folks. Questioning your beliefs, principles, and long held posistions is something many find themselves incapable of. It frightens them because they may come to find out they were wrong.

ReplyDeleteWhatever we may think Jersey's politics (stinko-pinko, oinko-boinko by my lights ;-) the guy has no real malice in him, and despite his perpetually pugnacious stance, is -- like Archie and Edith Bunker -- oddly lovable.
I've always felt that underneath all the generally idiotic bluster his heart's in the right place. Unlike the Islamaniacs, Reconquista Latinos and the hate-filled, dyed-in-the-wool, Red Diaper Marxist ideologues, Jersey is an AMERICAN.
