Many here may not know that WHO'S YOUR DADDY? has suspended operations for an indeterminate period of time, because blogowner LISA'S HUSBAND has been stricken with CANCER.

Lisa was kind enough to tell us that, and briefly reopened her blog hoping participants would behave more kindly, politely, and thoughtfully than usual in light
of her present circumstances.

Be kind, for everyone you meet
is fighting a hard battle - Plato

NEEDLESS to SAY HER WISHES were CALLOUSLY DISREGARDED, and so WYD is NOW CLOSED.

WE HOPE YOU WLL TAKE THIS NOTICE as an OPPORTUNITY to TELL LISA HOW SORRY YOU ARE  that this HAS HAPPENED, to WISH HER HUSBAND WELL, and, PERHAPS to REFLECT on WHAT SHOULD and SHOULD NOT be CONSIDERED APPROPRIATE CONDUCT in the BLOGSPHERE and ELSEWHERE.

MESSAGE from LISA
just posted at
HER BLOG

Paul is doing well with is treatments. He had a tough first week but is slowly bouncing back. He has 3 more chemo treatments and is finished with radiation which he had to his head and lower back. No more lower back pain and the Dr is hopeful the radiation will eradicate the brain lesions. One more spot on the lung that they are hoping to shrink with the chemo and then eradicate with radiation.

They haven't seen it anywhere else so that's a good thing.
So once he is off the steroids he will feel more normal again. Those steroids have some crappy side effects but are necessary. He also received immune therapy drugs in the chemo IV which is has been successful in the experimental stages. That is a pretty new thing they do now. and another drug that stimulate the bone marrow all to search out and destroy cancer cells.

So far we are doing ok and the other good thing is that his treatments are only 20 minutes away as we live very close to the North Shore Technology Center .

Thank you all for your prayers and good wishes . Please continue to wish us luck as we continue down this unfamiliar territory.

I wish Lisa and her husband all the best. Being in good spirits and having faith in God are very important in such battles.

    1. I don't want to accept that blanket condemnation of all humanity, Silver, although I have to admit that the BEHAVIOR of far too many –– especially here in the blogosphere –– is dowright REPREHENSIBLE –– and it too easily becomes CONTAGIOUS.

But I refuse to believe the very nature of blogging gives ANYONE a "special license" to act as churlish and contemptuous as they like.

That is NEVER appropriate, and as a blog editor, I systematically DELETE any and all comments I, personally find, nasty, rude, belligerent, contemptuous, unduly provocative, and stupid.

Very frankly, I wish ALL blog owners and operators followed the same example.

Our dear friend Lisa, whose husband is now so desperately ill, made a serious MISTAKE, I think, in interpretng "Freedom of Speech" as a categorical, unalienable right to INSULT, ABUSE, BERATE, UPBRAID and OUTSHOUT anyone disliked all the time

I will agree with your "human beings are bastards" opinion only to this extent:

  2. ___ THE IMPOSSIBE DREAM ___

    To dream the impossible dream
    To fight the unbeatable foe
    To bear with unbearable sorrow
To run where the brave dare not go
    To right the unrightable wrong
To love pure and chaste from afar
To try when your arms are too weary
    To reach the unreachable star

    This is my quest
    To follow that star
    No matter how hopeless
    No matter how far

    To fight for the right
    Without question or pause
To be willing to march into Hell
    For a heavenly cause

And I know if I'll only be true
    To this glorious quest
That my heart will lie peaceful and calm
When I'm laid to my rest

And the world will be better for this
That one man, scorned and covered with scars
Still strove with his last ounce of courage
    To reach the unreachable stars

  3. It's a good idea to close down Lisa's blog. Politics concerns the "epic". Cancer mostly affects the "lyrical" (individual). Like the sacred with the profane, they do not mix well. Facebook is a better medium for the "lyrical", as most "friends" abhor its' politicization.

    1. Yes, but mostly no, Thersites.

You have a marked tendency to want to compartmentalize the various aspects of life, and then specifcally "label" with abstruse terms invented by "intellectuals" or academics.

In that we differ a great deal. I see all these "aspects" as integral parts of the continuum we call "LIFE." As such they are organically linked and thus inseparable.

I hasten to add that when we are talking about "Historical Periods, " "Art," "Music," "Literature," "Cultural Evolution," Raising Cattle," "Interior Decoration," "Chenical Enfgineering," or "Individual Personalities Who've Distinguished Themselves on the World's Stage," –– i.e. ANY specific topic –– it's necessary to RESTRICT the commentary, narrow the focus, and INSIST that it be PERTINENT.

When it comes to Morality, Rules of Conduct, Standards of Etiquette,Standards of Decency –– anything that relates to the ways and means we USED to agree meant we were CIVILIZED –– I would i[nisit that the SAME standard aspply in ALL transactions.

In addition I firmly believe that those who REFUSE to conduct themselves in a civil manner SHOULD and MUST be OSTRACIZED and suffer the moral equivaent of being TARRED, FEATHERED and RIDDEN out of TOWN on a RAIL.

    2. Lisa's blog was "political". Cancer is not. Any expectation of kindness there would be and IS irrational.

    3. I'm sure that many of Lisa's political adversaries sympathize with her husbands plight. But to expect them to moderate their political opinions there & "play nice" would be a bridge too far for them, as it is for me. I'm NOT going to talk pleasantries with Dervish, et al. Sorry, Lisa!

    4. Oh dear! 'Tis a terrible curse forever to go through life being thoroughly misunderstood. Apparently, you gleaned NOTHING of any value from my, perhaps-too-lengthy, statement.

And I tried SO hard! (SNIFF! SNIFF! BOO HOO!)

      P_E_R_I_O_D_!

I certainly won't have them HERE.

I'm a firm believer that it's better to be alone than in poor company.

It's NEVER inaprpriate to be KIND to basically decent people, whether you agree with their views or not.

The individual you referenced and all others of his kind are INDECENT –– absolutely VILE in fact –– and as such don't deserve to be given so much as the Time of Day –– at least where I'M in charge.

You, of course, are free to do as you like. If you want YOUR blog to become another untended PUBLIC TOILET, be my guest. In that case I'll just stay home to answer the Calls of Nature from then on.

    6. ;P

But, one man Thersites, still railed on, nonstop
His head was full of obscenities, teaming with rant,
all for no good reason, insubordinate, baiting the kings—
anything to provoke some laughter from the troops.
Here was the ugliest man who ever came to Troy.

Achilles despised him most, Odysseus too—
he was always abusing both chiefs, but now
he went for majestic Agamemnon, hollering out,
taunting the king with stings of cutting insults.
The Achaeans were furious with him, deeply offended.
But he still kept shouting at Agamemnon, spewing his abuse…

But Odysseus stepped in in quickly, faced him down.
“What a flood of abuse, Thersites! Even for you,
fluent and flowing as you are. Keep quiet.
who are you to wrangle with kings, you alone?

So stop your babbling, mouthing the names of kings,
flinging indecencies in their teeth, your eyes
peeled for a chance to cut and run for home.

You and your ranting—you’re the outrage.

Lisa's blog was "political". Cancer is not. Any expectation of kindness there would be and IS irrational.

I afraid that the above is the truth.

The blogosphere has had the effect of smothering empathy.

Besides, everyone has a political axe to grind. **sigh**

  6. I do wish the Lisa's husband claim "a miracle."

The most important thing for Lisa to do right now is to be her husband's support system.

If commenters cannot "play nice," it is their loss. They need to look to their own souls and do "some housekeeping" if they can't respect Lisa's expressed wishes. I'm sure that she doesn't have time to swat flies and put out brushfires at her blog right now.

  9. Lisa, You are part of the solution. I wish so much that your husband comes out of this. He may. If the cancer is localized there is a chance from what I know and the people I know who have had to deal with it.

On the other side, anyone who can dial up a blog post talking about a spouse with cancer and spew their politcal/leftist brain vomit in the comment section... Well I hope they die a long lingering extremely painful death and report to the gates of hell poste haste.

    2. Maybe Sir it is because in your post you chastised people for callously disregarding Lisa's wishes for people to play nice on her blog and you chose to be one of the worst offenders. Your name calling, specifically using Fart Breath and wishing even death on some posters could hardly be called playing nice. Yet you seem to post as if you were not part of the problem.

    3. Like most leftists –– or prim and proper soulless dullards devoid of imagination –– you appear to have a penchant for always looking for reasons –– or excuses –– to find fault, and for taking things literally, which means you have no sense of humor, no understanding of horse play, no understanding of hijinks, no appreciation of satire, and no appetite for rough and tumble brawling –– a MAN's pursuit, I admit.

I only ridicule ridiculous people who richly deserve to be castigated and humiliated for their incessant rude violations of Common Sense, Common Decency, Good Decorum and for their callous disregard for the Truth.

In other words I give fools and miscreants what they have rightfully earned by being so assertively silly and obnoxious.

If you're determned to act like an ass when I'm on the premises, you may expect to be treated accordingly, I don't suffer fools gladly, and tolerate mindlessly malevolent BIGOTS and LIARS with even less enthusiasm.

If there were no Fartbreaths around, I would never even dream of using the term.

What you dislike so intensely about me is that I'm not afraid to call a spade a SPADE, and certainly have no hesitation to call a moron a moron, a thug a thug, or a turd a turd.

Why I should be expected to allow ANYONE to insult our president, –– my values, –– my convictions, –– or my preferred way of life with mindless, fact-free catcalls and lewd innuendos in the name of "Good Manners" stretches the bonds of credulity to the breaking point.

What you are saying is that it should be perfectly all right for the likes of YOU to do all the sneering, jeering, nose-thumbing and shin kicking you like with impunity, but it's "rude" for ME to tell YOU to FUCK OFF when I f know perfectly well it's warranted.

I do a lot of looking and almost never say anything, and I can tell you that the published of this blog is anything but a hypocrite. I may not always like what he has to say, but he always says what he means and means what he says, and he says it uncommonly well.
