STEPHEN K. BANNON
Highlights from His Life and Career

BACKGROUND and EDUCATION

Stephen Kevin Bannon was born on November 27, 1953, in Norfolk, Virginia. … His father worked as an AT&T telephone lineman, later in middle management. His working class, Irish Catholic family was pro-Kennedy, pro-union Democrat. Bannon attended Benedictine College Preparatory, a private, Catholic, military high school in Richmond, Virginia graduating in 1971.

Bannon then attended Virginia Tech and served as the president of the student government association. During the summers, he took a job working at a local junk yard –– a job  so dirty and demanding he had to wash himself off wth the garden hose before his mother would permit him to reenter the house..

He graduated from Virginia Tech in 1976 with a bachelor's degree in urban planning. In 1983, he earned a master's degree in national security studies from Georgetown University School of Foreign Service. In 1985, Bannon earned a Master of Business Administration degree –– with honors –– from Harvard Business School.

MILITARY CAREER

Bannon was an officer in the United States Navy for seven years in the late 1970s and early 1980s, serving on the destroyer USS Paul F. Foster as a surface warfare officer in the Pacific Fleet and, afterwards stateside as a special assistant to the Chief of Naval Operations at the Pentagon.

Bannon's job at the Pentagon was, among other things, handling messages between senior officers and writing reports about the state of the Navy fleet worldwide. While at the Pentagon, Bannon attended Georgetown University at night and obtained his master's degree in national security studies.

In 1980, Bannon was deployed to the Persian Gulf to assist with Operation Eagle Claw during the Iran hostage crisis. The failure of the mission marked a turning point in his political world-view from largely apolitical to strongly Reaganite, which was further reinforced by the September 11 attacks.

Bannon has stated that, "I wasn’t political until I got into the service and saw how badly Jimmy Carter fucked things up. I became a huge Reagan admirer. Still am. But what turned me against the whole establishment was coming back from running companies in Asia in 2008 and seeing that Bush had fucked up as badly as Carter. The whole country was a disaster.”

Upon his departure Bannon ranked as a lieutenant (O-3).

BUSINESS CAREER

After his military service, Bannon worked at Goldman Sachs as an investment banker in the Mergers and Acquisitions Department. In 1987, Bannon relocated from New York to Los Angeles, to assist Goldman to expand their presence in the entertainment industry.  He stayed at this position … for two years, leaving with the title of vice president.

In 1990, Bannon and several colleagues from Goldman Sachs launched Bannon & Co., a boutique investment bank specializing in media. In one of Bannon & Co.'s transactions, the firm represented Westinghouse Electric which wanted to sell Castle Rock Entertainment. Bannon negotiated a sale of Castle Rock to CNN, which was owned by Ted Turner at the time. Instead of a full adviser’s fee, Bannon & Co. accepted a financial stake in five television shows, including Seinfeld, which was in its third season. Bannon still receives cash residuals each time Seinfeld is aired. Société Générale purchased Bannon & Co. in 1998.

CAREER IN EARTH SCIENCE

In 1993, while still managing Bannon & Co., Bannon became acting director of the Earth-science research project Biosphere 2 in Oracle, Arizona. Under Bannon, the closed-system experiment project shifted emphasis from researching human space exploration and colonization toward the scientific study of earth's environment, pollution and climate change. He left the project in 1995.

ENTERTAINMENT AND MEDIA

In the 1990s, Bannon … became an executive producer in the Hollywood film and media industry. Bannon produced 18 films, from the 1991 Sean Penn drama The Indian Runner to Julie Taymor's 1999 film Titus. Bannon became a partner with entertainment industry executive Jeff Kwatinetz at film and television management company The Firm, Inc. 2002–2003.

In 2004, Bannon made a documentary about Ronald Reagan titled In the Face of Evil. Through the making and screening of this film, Bannon was introduced to Reagan's War author Peter Schweizer and publisher Andrew Breitbart, who would later describe him as the Leni Riefenstahl of the Tea Party movement. He was involved in the financing and production of a number of films, including Fire from the Heartland: The Awakening of the Conservative Woman, The Undefeated, and Occupy Unmasked.

Bannon persuaded Goldman Sachs to invest, in 2006, in a company known as Internet Gaming Entertainment. Following a lawsuit, the company rebranded as Affinity Media and Bannon took over as CEO. From 2007 through 2011, Bannon was the chair and CEO of Affinity Media.

In 2007, Bannon wrote an eight-page treatment for a new documentary called Destroying the Great Satan: The Rise of Islamic Fascism in America. The outline states that "although driven by the “best intentions,” institutions such as the media, the Jewish community and government agencies were appeasing jihadists aiming to create an Islamic republic.”

In 2011, Bannon spoke at the "Liberty Restoration Foundation" in Orlando, Florida about the Economic Crisis of 2008, the Troubled Assets Relief Program and their impact in the origins of the Tea Party movement, while also discussing his films Generation Zero and The Undefeated.

Bannon was executive chair and co-founder of the Government Accountability Institute, a tax-exempt 501(c)(3) organization, where he helped orchestrate the publication of Breitbart News senior editor-at-large Peter Schweizer's book Clinton Cash, from its founding in 2012 until he left in August 2016. For the years 2012 through 2015, he received between $81,000 and $100,000 each year; the organization reported that he worked an average of 30 hours per week for the organization. He has also worked as vice president of Cambridge Analytica's board, a data-analytics firm owned largely by the Mercer family; the family that is also co-owners of Breitbart News.

In 2015, Bannon was ranked No. 19 on Mediaite's list of the "25 Most Influential in Political News Media 2015".Bannon also hosted a radio show (Breitbart News Daily) on the SiriusXM Patriot satellite radio channel.

Mr. Bannon is a Founding Member

  1. What first comes to my mind: opportunist.

What next comes to my mind: no employer loyalty to speak of. He moves from job to job quite often.

Not included in the above bio: three marriages, three divorces. None of the marriages lasted more than 3 years. I wonder...alcohol involved.

Bannon looks like a drunkard to me -- just a hunch, no proof.

    1. I believe you have bought dislike and distrust based amost solely on Mr. Bannon's unkempt physical appearance to your appraisal, AOW.

Very bright people tend to be eccentric and unwilling to conform to prevalent standards.

The greatest of all my heroes, Ludwig van Beethoven, would never have passed muster given the standards you apply to Stephen K. Bannon.

Exceptonally brilliant people are generally hard to live with, make enemies very easily, and have few close friends. This is probably because they tend to be egocentric, driven by a rare degree of passion for their work, have little or no taste or time for frippery, and do not suffer fools gladly,

    2. FT,
I believe you have bought dislike and distrust based amost solely on Mr. Bannon's unkempt physical appearance to your appraisal, AOW.

      Not solely.

He changed Breitbart to something no longer considered a good source of information.

And Bannon's ego is beyond the pale as far as I'm concerned (the same goes for Wolff, BTW).

You seem to admire Bannon much more than I do. Even though, as I understand the latest developments, Bannon was the source of WH leaks -- the cause of Kelly's showing Bannon the door.

Trump has turned on Bannon. Do you now not trust Trump's instincts?

When it comes to '"reportage" by ANY member of the ENEMEDIA, –– including FOX, which lost me when it started to give too much air time to Geraldo Rivera and Juan Wlliams, then hired the likes of that cold-eyed, hard-faced female bully Megyn Kelly to badger Donald Trump and those who supported his candidacy –– I categorically DISMISS. 99.44% of what they have to say as spurious, agenda-driven, propagandistic putrefaction.

I came to understand –– a LOOOOOOONG time ago –– that the MEDIA is the ENEMY of TRUTH, JUSTICE and the AMERICAN WAY.

Why else would you suppose I started to call them the ENEMEDIA –– a term i coi[ned more than TWENTY-FIVE years ago?

Whether the rotten games they play are designed to aid and abet our political and philsophical enemies at home and abroad, or simply to enlarge the profitabiity of their obscene enterprise doesn't much matter. Either way they –– or "IT" if you prefer –– function as DETRIMENT to society and to the best interests of Decency, Harmony, Peace and Good Will.

    4. By the way instead of labelling Mr. Bannon unstable, disloyal and self-serving, I would prefer to describe his remarkable career as "meteoric" –– i.e. dynamic, and highly creative, if a bit restive.

As for being egocentric, try to show me a hard driving, high-achieving person who is not. Even the martyred saints got "high" on their own righteous zeal.

  2. Bannon or Trump, who to believe? A fan of neither it occurs to me that the current Trump/Bannon fallout and Trump's recent scathing attack on Bannon is possibly just smoke and mirror strategy to further distract people from the real issues impacting the nation.

As noted, a fan if neither but there is little doubt Bannon is the smarter of the two. Given this he is the most dangerous if he chooses to use his intellect and may very well have a lasting influence on the nation. An influence that may eclipse Trump's own.

The energy surrounding all this is one of a negative nature and in truth does none of us or the nation much good. IMNHO anyway.

    3. Why must people on the left invariably question the intelligence of the people they hate?

Trump and Bannon are alike in so many ways, smart, entrepreneurial, unconventional and colossal egos.

Two such men can work together while fighting the Establishment on a public stage, but settling in at the White House, the two Alpha Dogs are bound to scrap, and the President will always win that one.

President Trump is always on a hair-trigger, and he trashed Bannon before allowing the dust to settle and determine who really said what.

I cannot imagine Bannon saying those things in they way they are presented. It looks to me like Wolff is enjoying sowing dissension. He has a reputation for that, often through blatant lies.

Bannon and President Trump's lasting influence is nothing but positive:

      * Taking care of Americans first
      * Stopping our insane immigration surrender
      * Radical truth-telling: Jerusalem is and always has been the principle city of the Jewish people, for over 3,000 years.

The economy is booming, unemployment, including African American unemployment, is at a record low. People are working, we are done coddling America's enemies, and the Saudis appear to be reforming. That's a pretty damn good legacy right there.

Not only has Mr. Trump –– with the help of STEVE BANNON, the Tea Party and the congressional Freedom Caucus –– ripped the straitjacket off our formerly self-strangulatling economic policy, but –– even more importantly –– he has –– with the help of StEVE BANNON and a very few others –– torn the GUTS out of Political-Correctness, which is why the herd of Ballistic Bullshitters better known as the ENEMEDIA is squealing, bellowing and roaring so ferociously ,and so frantically in a last ditch effort to save their precious necks. They KNOW their Time is at Hand at long last. Naturally, they don't like it.

  3. Good insight into Steve Bannon. As usual you can tell more about an individual by their actions than their words or what others say about that individual. Trump says that Bannon cried when he fired him, so there must have been a sense of loss that Trump would take that action. Bannon says he was repulsed by the blatant nepotism of the Trump White House.

Hopefully Trump will get the message that his Presidency will be short lived if he continues on his present path of overly catering to the criminal Synagogue of Satan stationed in Tel Aviv. And making America Great Again will have much to do with how he treats the criminal cabal running the Federal Reserve and the mighty American main street media.

Never a conformist or a traditionalist I have always sought to understand ideas and concepts in their full context, something that is not easy to accomplish. My admiration for Rand always rested on her argument for rational self interest and her fierce individualism. But that does not mean I agree with 100% of here positions. Rand BTW was not a Libertarian or a Republican, nor a Democrat, something else I admired about her.

If considering many political and philosophical viewpoints and choosing to accept whit one believes proper and right is a crime I plead guilty FreeThinke.

I know you agree true liberty gives ALL the RIGHT to argue their beliefs as well as to live their lives as they determine to be right for them. Of course this means within the laws of the land. We both know laws are constructs designed to control people living within a given society, don't we FreeThinke.

Yes FreeThinke you are right, choices must ultimately be made. I've made my choice(s). If ever forced to to defend my right and liberty to make choices of my choosing I shall pick the side that best insures this.

It is unfortunate that political and philosophical differences end up in creating so much rancor between people.

I do understand very well, however, that the practice either originated or became highly accelerated in the Stalinist gulag better known as the U.S.S.R. and Mao Tse Dung's Red China.

State-run Show Trials targeting Intellectuals, the Priesthood and formerly prominent leaders of ancien regimes have been a common occurrence in most dictatorships throughout history. Remember the mass machine-gunning of dissidents in the public arena staged by Fidel Castro and the brutality of Che Guevara.

Finding "good excuses" or a plausible rationale to MURDER as many potential opponents as possible has been the standard operating procedure of despots since time immemorial.

"In 2007, Bannon wrote an eight-page treatment for a new documentary called Destroying the Great Satan: The Rise of Islamic Fascism in America. The outline states that "although driven by the “best intentions,” institutions such as the media, the Jewish community and government agencies were appeasing jihadists aiming to create an Islamic republic.”

Now I can see that this position would not exactly be endearing to the tribe that has infiltrated the office of the President of the United States of America. Is it possible that Trump has become a hostage and slave to the global intentions of this ugly cabal?

Battered by the backlash from Michael Wolff's book, Steve Bannon is trying to make amends with the Trump family, providing a statement to Axios that expresses "regret" to President Trump and praises his son, Donald Trump Jr.

"Donald Trump, Jr. is both a patriot and a good man. He has been relentless in his advocacy for his father and the agenda that has helped turn our country around."

"My support is also unwavering for the president and his agenda — as I have shown daily in my national radio broadcasts, on the pages of Breitbart News and in speeches and appearances from Tokyo and Hong Kong to Arizona and Alabama."

"President Trump was the only candidate that could have taken on and defeated the Clinton apparatus. I am the only person to date to conduct a global effort to preach the message of Trump and Trumpism; and remain ready to stand in the breech for this president's efforts to make America great again."

"My comments about the meeting with Russian nationals came from my life experiences as a Naval officer stationed aboard a destroyer whose main mission was to hunt Soviet submarines to my time at the Pentagon during the Reagan years when our focus was the defeat of 'the evil empire' and to making films about Reagan's war against the Soviets and Hillary Clinton's involvement in selling uranium to them."

"My comments were aimed at Paul Manafort, a seasoned campaign professional with experience and knowledge of how the Russians operate. He should have known they are duplicitous, cunning and not our friends. To reiterate, those comments were not aimed at Don Jr."

"Everything I have to say about the ridiculous nature of the Russian 'collusion' investigation I said on my 60 Minutes interview. There was no collusion and the investigation is a witch hunt."

"I regret that my delay in responding to the inaccurate reporting regarding Don Jr has diverted attention from the president's historical accomplishments in the first year of his presidency."...

    Is this for real?

    1. I think so, AOW, but one can never be sure about ANYTHING –– bad OR good –– reported in the ENEMEDIA.

I do know THIS, however, if everything I have ever said in a fit of pique or passion to my family, a group of friends or to a confidante were recorded and shared with John Q. Publick, I'd be in deep deep Doo Doo –– and so would 99.44% of everyone ELSE.

If the Clinton's don't go to prison after THIS investigation then it is a fact that there is no longer fair/equal justice in the US and a revolution to wipe out the Deep State would be justified. The leftists lie about "what Bannon said" and somehow conservatives are suddenly believers in what the NYT, LAT, ABCNBCCBSPBSMSNBC liars say.

Why are people so gullible? They are just like Dan Rather.

Bannon has said he never said much of this and that what he said about Manafort was transferred by the lying media to Trump Jr. Bannon has reiterated that he fully supports Trump and his policies and that Trump Jr. is a patriot. Bannon said NONE of these antiTrump things on video or tape, so it is just what the lying media claim. Yet, many believe a book author and the lying Enemedia over an ally.

Personally, I´ll believe Bannon over all of the Enemedia. They are proven liars and Bannon has fought well and long for what I believe in. I know which I believe.

If the Enemedia reports tomorrow that Pence actually hates Trump, who will believe it? And who will continue to believe when Pence denies it?

There are so many bigger fish to fry than Steve Bannon--

How about directing that invective to the REAL people trying to defeat the TRUMP wave?

The demonrat/socialists and the media that drives their agenda carrying the water for them to protect them are just revving up to bring down our republic.

Let´s get behind the President and leave the other issues behind. It's not fair to expect him to continue going it alone––––not that he can't.

The RINO ´gang of 8" is working to get amensty BEFORE a Wall is built. This WALL must be built before ANYTHING ELSE needs to be discussed.

The media is busy creating "shiny objects´ and getting the Wave off topic defending against every petty attack.

Get that big, beautiful wall built--drag that "gang of 8" on board and don´t get off message with all this talk of AMNESTY

That she achieved this while pretending to DENY and DENIGRATE the very system that made her great wealth and fame possible is one of the funiest and most remarkable ironies in the history of American cultural and economic development.

  32. Oprah Winfrey is an unlikely candidate. However, given her business savvy and great success (she's a winner), as well as popularity she is no less unlikely than Trump was 2 years ago.

Running Oprah would not be playing the race card.

Bannon out on his ear @ Breitbart. Does that mean the organization is looking for someone to head them up who will give them greater legitimacy and credibility as a news source?

Steve Bannon is a man of great accomplishments, but also possessed of an outsize ego that often accompanies such accomplishments.

Steve Bannon was in it for Steve Bannon. There was only enough oxygen in the room for one star. If you pretend to be the power behind the throne, then you must remain behind the throne.

That was quite a display that the President put on yesterday, you just got to hand it to him. Even the press said that it was “Brilliant” , and “unprecedented”. Meeting with both sides, and having the cameras is live! It was a great way to work out a compromise.
Especially after 8 years of "my way, or no way"
So let’s have that transparency that Obama spoke so highly of but never implemented!

It was high time to dump Barack Obama's executive orders that were found to be unlawful in the first place, so all Donald Trump did was retract a flawed Executive Order that he 9th circuit loons held up. It’s true that the loons tied his hands because they are still judges. However I blame the RINOs who approved these judges as much as Obama and the Democrats who nominated them. Any Republican who voted to confirm these loons is just guilty of treason.
Let’s hear the Democrats defend their insistence that our borders remain open to all comers and chain migration continue in order to ensure generations of future Dem voters. Especially after the two terrorist events of the past few months
Let’s hear them insist, again, that if you give them what they want now they’ll work with you later on what you want. What we want is to Build that Wall.
The presidents move was brilliant to show the American people he is not the raving lunatic bully as he is painted to be in Wolff’s phony book.

This is why he televised the immigration meeting, it was a brilliant move! Had Shumer and Pelousi showed up for their sit down he would have made them look like the fools they are.
Now it is confirmed by the Democrats themselves that the depraved jackals are trying to sell the American Way down the river for power....for the chance to turn the greatest country in the history of mankind into Mexico North, another third world country for POWER. We’ve all known this for a long time now....but for some odd reason it’s actually kind of bizarre to finally hear it from the horses mouth.
I never thought I’d see it happen in my lifetime.

And on another note, to add to the craziness, crazy Kamala Harris and that wack-job Cory Booker were appointed to Senate Judiciary Committee
Nice move, if you want a incoherent, irrational, and unhinged two-some in that position. OK, combine my opinion of those two along with my detest for Oprah, and it’s time for the Libs to call me a”Racist” again.
That should tell you exactly the direction the DNC is going, and that means the Republicans will continue to be in power for the next 50 years.
