A MOTHER'S PLEA
Marine Sgt. Andrew Ttahmooressi, held over 100 days |
Dear Fellow Citizen,
I want you to imagine something terrifying...
... you're decorated, combat wounded, veteran of two tours in Afghanistan;
... you're admitted to a Veterans Hospital for treatment;
... and you're being held against your will and then abused in a horrible Mexican jail.
This isn't a joke –– my son Andrew, 25 years of age –– is a current inactive Reservist Marine Corps Meritoriously Promoted Sergeant who served with honor in two tours.
After being honorably discharged active duty from the Marine Corps, Andrew went to San Diego in March to receive treatment for PTSD. While driving in Southern California, he unknowingly took a wrong turn and wound up at a Mexican Customs Checkpoint.
He was denied the right to turn back and was arrested for carrying firearms into Mexico that are legally registered in the United States. In desperation, he even called 9-11 for help. Now, he is in jail in Mexico (he's been moved to three different jails), has been denied bail, and is being represented by the third attorney ordered.
We have appealed to the State Department... but John Kerry "raised the issue". We have filed a petition with the White House ... but President Obama has ignored our pleas.
Andrew is not an "issue". He is a gravely serious, URGENT CONCERN.
I have been honored to be a featured guest on Fox News with Greta Van Susteren, and other cable news networks that have covered Andrew's case. I hope that you're seen or heard something in the news about my son on the news.
Everyone agrees — Andrew shouldn't be in jail, yet all of his life savings will be spent on his defense of an unintentional entry. This horrific experience has broken Andrew physically, emotionally and financially. So today, I'm at my last resort. As a mother, I'm asking for your immediate help.
Are you able to make a generous donation of $25 or whatever you can afford to Andrew's liberty fund?
If you want to learn more about our situation, and I truly hope that you do, please click here to watch a short video that includes reporting from Fox News about our situation. When you're finished watching, please consider making a generous contribution to liberate Andrew.
I'm so fortunate to have the assistance of many friends and organizations here in America that have helped me set up the Sgt. Andrew Tahmooressi Liberty Fund.
You see, the truth is, I'm just a mother from Florida. I'm not a diplomat, or an international lawyer, or a strong Marine like my son. I need help to get Andrew out of jail and to bring him home and for that I'm going to need to hire talented lawyers... lawyers that I can't afford and that our government isn't willing to provide.
I really hope you're with me on this...
I know the American people are not ok with a decorated, combat wounded Marine being unfairly held in a Mexican jail. And that's why I am emailing you today.
Thank you in advance for your support.
I hope that you can make a donation, or at the very least, give us your support so we can urge the Obama Administration to show some interest in freeing my son.
Sincerely,
Jill Tahmooressi
Andrew's Mother
Your contribution is not tax deductible and you may incur federal gift tax liability. However, an individual donor can make an annual tax-free gift of up to $14,000, and a married couple can make an annual tax-free gift of up to $28,000. However, you should consult your own accountant or tax advisor regarding your personal financial situation and any potential tax liability as a result of making a contribution to the Trust.

FT,
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you have posted about Sgt. Tahmooressi.
THERE IS NO ACCEPTABLE EXCUSE FOR OUR GOVERNMENT NOT TO INTERVENE AND AT LEAST TRY TO NEGOTIATE!
The Obama administration is derelict in their duty and not upholding their oaths of office. Scum!

As one married to a veteran who is now disabled, you can imagine how much this travesty done to the sergeant fires me up. I'd better close this comment now before I use extremely unladylike language.

ReplyDeleteThe letter from Andrew's mother -- a very nice lady -- does include links to "venues' where contributions may be sent. I didn't edit her letter, but I wish she'd consulted me before sending it out. It's touching, but not very clear in defining its purpose -- namely to receive financial assistance from sympathetic Americans.
ReplyDeleteThe administration's deadpan indifference and total lack of effort on Andrew Tahmooressi's behalf is yet another piece of the mosaic that accurately portrays the Obama Administration as fundamentally anti-American and negligent to the point of depravity.
It's beyond shocking that Greta Van Susteren, so far, is he ONLY member of the media who has shown sympathy for Sg. Tahmooreesi's plight and made any attempt to rally support for him in hopes of rectifying the situation.
Isn't it about ti]me fr ANOTHER March on Washington = THIS time on behalf of WHITE, NATURAL-BORN American citizens?
It's to time to build anther RESURRECTION CITY on the MALL -- THIS time to "resurrect" the constitutionally guaranteed rights of WHITE Americans.
FT,
ReplyDeleteI posted those veterans-organizations links to show that this travesty of justice is receiving quite a bit of attention -- however, not in the mainstream media (as you pointed out).
But what stuns me is that only Greta Van Susteren has pursued coverage of this story. What happened to the rest of those anchors and pundits at Fox News?

HEAR, HEAR!
He drove into Mexico with undeclared guns and ammo. What the heck do you think should happen? If he had been a Mexican, driving the other way, he'd still be sitting in a miserable and dangerous prison - here in the US.
ReplyDeleteJMJ
No, he immediately DECLARED his guns... and then the Comanchero commander decided that he needed to upgrade his own personal weapons inventory.
ReplyDelete...he was in the "Nothing to Declare" LANE. AND since he had NO INTENTION of crossing into Mexico, I doubt that he could CARE LESS which LANE he was in. BOTH lead to Mexico, and he wasn't intending upon going there.
ReplyDeleteTherisites, I read the story from more than just right-wing $#itrags and FOX, and the guy kept changing his story, was really suspicious, and the logistics of the whole thing didn't add up. Again, if he'd been a Mexican, driving the other way,. with the same story, he'd be sitting in an American jail now, and I would think you cons would demand that.
ReplyDeleteDon't get me wrong. I feel for the young man. I think there's probably much more to the story of this young man living out of his truck, heavily armed, suffering PTSD after tours in those horrible wars you cons got us into. I think we should work to get him out and home. But let's not pretend the Mexicans are doing anything any other nation wouldn't do here. Be real.
JMJ
Yes jmj, your point is reasonable. As you point out all nations have their laws and if a foreigner, knowingly or unknowingly, violates their laws there is a process they will go through. Whether we like it or not it is what it is.
ReplyDeleteNow, the broader issue in my mind is... what in hell has Kerry and or Obama done, what are they doing, and what are they going to do? Diplomatic pressure makes sense.
after tours in those horrible wars you cons got us into...
ReplyDelete???
House of Representatives
On September 14, 2001 bill House Joint Resolution 64 passed in the House. The totals in the House of Representatives were: 420 Ayes, 1 Nay and 10 Not Voting. The Nay was Barbara Lee, D-CA. [1] Lee is notable as the only member of either house of Congress to vote against this bill.[2]
Senate
On September 14, 2001 Senate Joint Resolution 23 passed in the Senate by roll call vote. The totals in the Senate were: 98 Ayes, 0 Nays, 2 Present/Not Voting (Senators Larry Craig - R and Jesse Helms - R).
I sure hope your penis is longer than your memory, Jersey.
Les, it's been my observation that when Obama and Co are quiet about something, either something is in the works or they know something about it we don't know. That's why all these scandals the right keep chasing never pan out. I have a feeling this young man will be home pretty soon.
ReplyDeleteJMJ
It was a con war, therisitissatissaties. No one who remembers it thinks otherwise. So, congratulations on your 12th birthday.
ReplyDeleteJMJ
You're suffering from cognitive dissonance again, Jersey. Democrats have ALWAYS been America's WAR Party.
ReplyDelete...Demagogues are like that!
ReplyDeletethersites, you are all ideology, no reality. Fortunately, no educated and serious person believes such a stupid thing.
ReplyDeleteJMJ
...if that's true, how can you possibly call them "educated"? Only one Democrat in Congress voted against the current War on Terror. One.
ReplyDelete...and Republicans didn't fire on Fort Sumpter. W pod row Wilson started WWI. FDR started WWII. Kennedy started the Vietnam War, Nixon ENDED it.
ReplyDelete..and I know that your dissonance prevents you from acknowledging your parties responsibility for Jim Crow and the Klan.
ReplyDeleteSerious people know and acknowledge their history. Unserious people eliminate the dissonance by pretending after the fact that they took no part in creating what emerged in results, and demogoguery. Sound vaguely familiar, Stubby?
ReplyDeleteYou may read the LEFTIST perspective on Sgt. Andrew Tahmooressi at
ReplyDeleteSanDiegoRED.com
The article is called
Debunking Media’s Coverage of Andrew Tahmooressi
Judicial Process versus Media Spin
The San Diego RED --an obvious LEFTIST RAG -- is giving Sgt. Tahmooressi the same sort of treatment the LEFT has so bitterly denounced that was visited on Pfc Bowe Bergdahl.
Now isn't that SPECIAL?
We live in a world so nakedly divided along partisan lines it should be regarded as obscene -- or would be if nakedness still had the power to offend. Alas! it does not in this world of streets lined with "ADULT" Book Stores and emblazoned in neon and the abundant supply of videos of the most grotesque acts imaginable involving human genitalia that crowd the net.
Now let's get serious, Jersey. Isn't it LONG PAST time that Democrats should take their justly due responsibility for the war in Iraq, too?
ReplyDeleteI mean, after Kosovo... it's hard to escape responsibility for recent Democrat-lead bellicosity.
Thersites, you and Silverfiddle both should realize how unkind and unsportsmanlike it us of you to engage an unarmed man in a battle of wits.
ReplyDeleteThe attempt to engage our endearing Village idiot in rational discourse, as both of you have done both here and abroad, is the moral equivalent of Mediaeval bear-baiting.
SHAME on you! };-)>
You are right, FT. Jersey should learn how to fish on his own.
ReplyDeleteHe does enjoy his continued State sponsored dependence, though!
By the way, it is downright disingenuous -- not to say foolhardy -- to refer to Abraham Lincoln as a REPUBLICAN.
ReplyDelete"Why is that?" you ask with some justification, since Srinkin' Lincoln bore the label.
BECAUSE the new-minted Republican Party bore NO resemblance to the party of that name as it evolved later in the nineteenth century, and certainly not to the "GOP" filled with RINOS's we've been living with most of our adult lives.
Put simplistically THE TWO PARTIES SWITCHED IDENTITIES.
Thanks to the regrettable advance of "Progressivism" -- i.e. crypto-Marxism -- the D'Rats [Calm yourself, Lester, it's just a li'l 'ol' abbreviation.] in truth have become The American Marxist Party, while the Pubbies have lapsed into the dismal, secindary role of Fellow Travellers.
"And why is THAT?" you ask.
Because -- and this should be patently obvious to anyone with even so much as a single 'little grey cell' -- the RINOGOPS have DELIBERATELY CHOSEN to give NO meaningful OPPOSITION whatsoever to the American crypto-Marxists. Not only that, when when someone comes along who DOES, the RINOGOPS swat him down as though he were a fly or a mosquito.
The use of our men at arms as PAWNS to score POLITICAL POINTS for EITHER (essentially non-exstent) "side" is CONTEMPTIBLE.
How much linger can we send our young men to risk the LIVES in the filth of Turd World Lands to perpetuate what long ago degenerated into a FARCE?

ReplyDeleteYes, Thersites, bu I would maintain that -- gradually over time -- FIRST they 'switched," and THEN they merged."
ReplyDeleteI thought I summed it up rather neatly in this bit of verse:
" ... I'm talkin 'bout The Oligarchs,
Whose money once created parks
And enhanced universities,
Built hospitals to fight disease,
Palaces where Opera's housed ––
Places at which no one's groused,
Libraries and Railroad Stations
Fit for endless celebrations,
Until that old New Deal was struck.
That changed the rules and killed good luck.
Since then "The Rich," forced to connive
To find a way they might survive,
Have joined with Statists to despise,
Deter, discourage those who'd rise.
We call it Crony Capitalism,
And it has caused the mammoth schism
Yawning now twixt rich and poor,
'Cause we let Marxists in the door...
Today's "oligarchs" are the natural descendants of the so-called Robber Barons whose lifestyle -- and all the great benefits to society that went with it -- was effectively destroyed by the Progressive insurgencies.

Jersey,
ReplyDeleteYou do raise some points worth considering, BUT it's hideously ironic in light of the way WE have opened the floodgates to a virtual TIDAL WAVE of Illegal Immigrants and are spending huge sums of MONEY on them that would better be used for the benefit of our OWN disadvantaged children, that you would say that WE would treat someone in Tahmooressi's position as badly as the Mexicans are treating him.
As an AMERICAN I am ALWAYS on the side of a fellow AMERICAN who gets into trouble in foreign territory, unless he has been caught on videotape committing a truly heinous atrocity abroad. HOWEVER, I too found it curious that our Marine should be carrying THREE guns in his pickup truck -- even if he DID have proper perits for them.
The story DOES emand further investigation, but the fact remains that the Mexican authorities have treated Sgt. Tahmooressi worse than we treat vicious thugs caught with smoking guns or bloody knives in their hands.
If PTSD has rendered Tahmooressi temporarily insane or otherwise incapable of rational judgment, which IS a possibility, he should be given every benefit of the doubt and treated for mental illness. What appears to be happening to him right now, shouldn't happen to a rabid dog.
...as you well know, my disagreement with Jersey is NOT overr the Sgt, but his characterization of the circumstances that the Sgt. was subjected to before arrival in Mexico.
