Afterlife Exists
Says Top Brain Surgeon
A prominent scientist who had previously dismissed the possibility of the afterlife says he has reconsidered his belief after experiencing an out of body experience which has convinced him that heaven exists.

Dr. Eben Alexander, a Harvard-educated neurosurgeon, fell into a coma for seven days in 2008 after contracting meningitis.
During his illness Dr Alexander says that the part of his brain which controls human thought and emotion "shut down" and that he then experienced "something so profound that it gave me a scientific reason to believe in consciousness after death." In an essay for American magazine Newsweek, which he wrote to promote his book Proof of Heaven, Dr Alexander says he was met by a beautiful blue-eyed woman in a "place of clouds, big fluffy pink-white ones" and "shimmering beings".
He continues: "Birds? Angels? These words registered later, when I was writing down my recollections. But neither of these words do justice to the beings themselves, which were quite simply different from anything I have known on this planet. They were more advanced. Higher forms." The doctor adds that a "huge and booming like a glorious chant, came down from above, and I wondered if the winged beings were producing it. the sound was palpable and almost material, like a rain that you can feel on your skin but doesn't get you wet."
Dr Alexander says he had heard stories from patients who spoke of outer body experiences but had disregarded them as "wishful thinking" but has reconsidered his opinion following his own experience.
He added: "I know full well how extraordinary, how frankly unbelievable, all this sounds. Had someone even a doctor told me a story like this in the old days, I would have been quite certain that they were under the spell of some delusion.
"But what happened to me was, far from being delusional, as real or more real than any event in my life. That includes my wedding day and the birth of my two sons." He added: "I've spent decades as a neurosurgeon at some of the most prestigous medical institutions in our country. I know that many of my peers hold as I myself did to the theory that the brain, and in particular the cortex, generates consciousness and that we live in a universe devoid of any kind of emotion, much less the unconditional love that I now know God and the universe have toward us.
"But that belief, that theory, now lies broken at our feet. What happened to me destroyed it."
My mother had a couple of close calls -- technically dead, I think. She mentioned an out-of-body experience but nothing like visions.
ReplyDeleteDad, who had a cardiac arrest and was "brought back" within seconds, said that he saw and heard nothing.
I don't known what to make of all this.
Why is it always white fluffy clouds or loved ones?

"Mr. Cogito and a Poet of a Certain Age"
I've had occasion to write about these things at my blog, specifically about the publicized experiences of children who supposedly went to "heaven."
ReplyDeleteIf you know and believe the Bible you should be able to spot these reports as false, but those who reject the Bible may fall for them.
Notice that they NEVER give the gospel of Jesus Christ, that He is God incarnate who died for our sins. They give an otherworldly experience and often a false idea of God and Jesus -- that is, false according to the Bible.
I'm a Bible-believer, I know these stories are deceptions. I believe they are real, however, in the sense that they are actual experiences of a real spiritual realm these people are having, and not hallucinations or tricks of the mind. But Heaven isn't the only spiritual realm, and demons are very clever at deceiving people.
Jesus died for your sins and ONLY those who are saved by believing in Him, the blood He shed on the cross to pay for our sins, through faith alone in Christ alone, are saved.
These illusions are all designed to deceive unbelievers into thinking they, and everybody else, will go to heaven. It's an evil lie concocted by the demons, or fallen angels.

ReplyDeleteI tried unsuccessfully so often to post comments on your blog over a period of several weeks, but finally gave up and even stopped following your blog.
Had you not noticed that comments suddenly stopped being submitted to your blog altogether? It's because there's a bug or glitch in the Blogspot system that won't allow comments to be submitted to your blog and every other blog that has that "Comment Filter" system activated.
That "Filter" system forces a would-be commenter to retype a distorted "code word" shown to the reader in order to prove that the commenter is a real person and not a spamming computer program.
You need to go into your Dashboard, find the portion that allows you to adjust the Comment Format for your blog, and DEACTIVATE that filter!
You can use the "Comment Moderation" mode if you want, or you can just leave your blog open to any and all comments submitted. But you MUST deactivate any other kind of "Spam Guard" or "Filtering Device" you find in place in your Dashboard. Otherwise you will receive no comments, because the buggy system is blocking out EVERYTHING, including real people who are trying submit comments to you.
I hope this info helps.

Wow, thanks Stephen. I'll go do what I can. Technology defeats me all too easily.
ReplyDeleteWhile we're at it, can you tell me how to make a URL into a title under this new Blogger formatting nightmare?
How on earth did you trace me HERE by the way?
maybe hell is full of pink clouds and nice, friendly creatures
ReplyDeletewouldn't that be a hoot?
I'm sure they can conjure some pink clouds for you if it suits their interests, but don't count on them hanging around long.
ReplyDeleteHi, Connie,
ReplyDeleteI posted this, because it was apolitical (I have come to understand that for sanity's sake we all need frequent periods of respite from that) and certainly interesting in that a highly trained surgeon -- man of science -- would report having had such an experience.
I'm not sure the article -- such as it is -- was meant to to have religious significance, although I can understand how one might extrapolate such a thought given the headline, which I'm sure was not written by the surgeon in question, but rather by some editor seeking maximum attention for his publication.
This particular report seemed different from the usual Bright Becoming Light at the End of a dark Tunnel sort of thing contained in most of these stories.
For all I know it could be nothing more than a vision coming from some deep recess in the man's subconscious experience or merely a figment of his imagination -- OR it might be an as-yet-unexplored-and-unexplained facet of physical reality.
If I have a purpose here, it's more to provoke THOUGHT and CURIOSITY than to make pronouncements.

ReplyDeleteI didn't track you here at all. I just recently started following this blog and just happened to see your comment on this thread.
I gotta tell ya, I'm quite computer illiterate myself. But I noticed that ALL of the blogs I was following that had that "retype this nonsensical code word" spam guard installed suddenly ceased working properly at the same time, about 3 or 4 weeks ago. I'm sure there are a lot of bloggers scratching their heads and wondering why they've stopped receiving comments from readers.
Were you able to find the issue I was referring to in your Dashboard and deactivate it?
>>...While we're at it, can you tell me how to make a URL into a title under this new Blogger formatting nightmare?
I'm not exactly sure what you mean. Are you asking how to turn a title, word, or sentence into a link that the reader can click and be transported to another website? If so, yes, I can tell you how to do that. It's easy.
Why don't you submit a comment to my blog and we'll discuss it further there. Or you can include your Email address in the comment and I will contact you that way. (Don't worry, I wouldn't actually publish your comment with the Email address on my blog. I'd just write the address on paper and then delete your comment so no one else would ever see it.)
At any rate, I imagine Free Thinke would probably prefer we take our one-on-one Blogspot bug discussion elsewhere. Contact me via one of my comment sections and I'll help you all I'm able to.

I see, FT, you have no interest in provoking anyone to THINK ABOUT what the Bible says, only about the usual brain-dead "opinions" people have about such phenomena. And you think this new "revelation" isn't "religious" when the whole point is to prove there is an afterlife and the book title is Proof of Heaven? Ha ha.
ReplyDeleteStephen: My email is public at my blog, always has been. Also, I took off the word thingy and already got spam.

ReplyDeleteAlright, I see the link to your Email on your Profile Page. I'll try to contact you that way sometime tonight, after I get home from work.
The spam problem can be easily remedied in two different ways. I'll explain when I write.

Could there REALLY be a character named Zbigniew Herbert, Ducky?
ReplyDeleteI'm sure there is, but it certainly sounds probably.
Almost in a class with Concepcion O'Grady or Ming Toy Epstein. ;-)
Walpole was so so right, when he said, "Life is a comedy to him who thinks ..."
If it weren't for the omnipresence of Love, which I know from deep personal experience to be real, I'd be sorely temped -- as have so many others before me -- to think the whole thing nothing but a sick joke.
Cheerio!

ReplyDeleteThe Bible -- much of which is highly suspect to a rational person -- might be a good "jumping off place," but it's hardly The Last Word when it comes to plumbing the depths of our spirituality -- the least know, but most essential part of our humanity.
