___ The Arkansas Power Broker ___

Oh, once upon a time in Arkansas,
A Redneck Sharp lived with a Power Whore
They fiddled with a theme they liked to hear,
A jolly old meme that they knew by ear.

It was raining hard, but the couple didn't care,
They played at being a popular pair,
They had no dough, but they
hatched great schemes
Sure to help them realize
their wildest dreams

A Power Broker paid a call that day,
And told them he could make
their prospects bright and gay;
Their eyes shone bright,
as their mouths grew wet,
The Broker said they'd soon
have no cause to fret.

"All you have to do is sell your souls to me,
Then tell the voters you'll provide
their needs for free,"
But the couple said when he'd had his say,
"We couldn't do it now, it's a rainy day."

The Power broker said, "That's all quite true,
But here's the thing, I think that you should do;
"Get busy when the weather gets clear and bright,
The hit the trail and flim flam
with all your might."

The Power Whore leapt at the chance to feel,
She soon could grind the whole world underheel
"Just show us where to sign
and our souls are yours;
We know you have the power
to open all the doors."

And so began these four-flushers' sad career
With The Broker as their Guide
they'd not a thing to fear,
They soon rose high to positions grand
From where they soon could pillage
and loot the land.

Where their story ends we don’t yet know
But I'll bet they spend Eternity Below
For Grifters too must learn
what their schemes brought to pass
Is sure to turn around and bite them
right in the ass!

My life closed twice
Before its close
It yet remains to see
If Immortality unveil
A Third Event to me.

So huge –– so hopeless to conceive
As thes wich twice befell.
Parting is all we know of Heaven
And all we need of Hell.

~ Emily Dickinson (1830-1886)

I’ll Be Seeing You

I'll be seeing you,
In all the old familiar places,
That this heart of mine embraces,
All day through.

In that small cafe,
The park across the way,
The children's carousel,
The chestnut trees the wishing well.

I'll be seeing you in every golden summer's day
In everything that's light and gay,
I'll always think of you that way,

I'll find you in the morning sun,
And when the night is new,
I'll be looking at the moon,
I'll be seeing you.

Gertrude Lawrence as Mrs. Anna (1951)

Hello, Young Lovers

When I think of Tom
I think about a night
When the earth smelled of summer
And the sky was streaked with white
And the soft mist of England
Was sleeping on a hill
I remember this
And I always will
There are new lovers now
on the same silent hill
Looking on the same blue sea
And I know Tom and I are a part of them all
And they're all a part of Tom and me

Hello young lovers, wherever you are
I hope your troubles are few
All my good wishes go with you tonight
I've been in love like you
Be brave, young lovers
and follow your star
Be brave and faithful and true
Cling very close to each other tonight
I've been in love like you
I know how it feels to have wings
on your heels
And to fly down the street in a trance
You fly down a street on the chance
that you'll meet
And you meet
not really by chance

Don't cry young lovers, whatever you do
Don't cry because I'm alone
All of my memories are happy tonight
I've had a love of my own
I've had a love of my own, like yours
I've had a love of my own.

 In Memoriam (1912-1984)

With you I always saw the potted palms
Marble floors and Chinese jardinieres
Polished ancient oak and well-worn arms
Of venerable tufted leather chairs.

Curious how your face evoked the glow
Of firelight and candles in old brass!
When I knew you, the wine had ceased to flow,
And so I have no love for Irish glass.

But crewel and damask –– spices from the East ––
Herbal tea and pottery Quimper
Feed my sorrow, as my my eyes do feast
On relics left from life within your care.

O, dearest, gentle one, you were the Past ––
A waking dream –– a joy that could not last.

MISTER SMTH GOES TO WASHINGTON
This classic Frank Capra film made in 1939 will show you exactly what is happening
in Washington, DC TODAY.

It proves the adage

"The More Things Change,
the More They Remain the Same"

"There is nothing new under the sun."

The formatting and sound are less than ideal, but if you transfer to "full screen" mode, by clicking on the icon at the lower right you can get a good idea what it's all about.

I can't recommend this film highly enough.

For each ecstatic instant
We must an Anguish pay
In keen an quivering ratio
To the Ecstasy.

For each beloved hour
Sharp pittances of years ––
Bitter contested Farthings ––
And Coffers heaped with Tears.

What Does This Mean to You?

How Do You Feel About It?

WHY?

Wednesday, October 11, 2017

Our friend, AOW, lost two of her three beloved cats to cancer within the last six months. Cameo on Easter Sunday, and Mysti three days ago, also on a Sunday.  The following was written to honor their memory.  It seemed the least we could do to mark the passing
of two dear friends and family members.

Cameo

To Two Departed Too Soon

Hello, you two!
I wonder if you ever knew
How much we‘d miss you
If you moved away?

You’re no longer within reach,
You’ve taught us all you had to teach,
I guess, but between us there’s no breach,
And so no need to say

“We love you, and we always will. ––
We’re grateful that you joined us here to fill
Happy days and times we went downhill
With antics that brought smiles each time you’d play.”

No, you don’t need us now,
Though we shall always feel a need to show
How much we miss observing how you’d grow,
Develop, subtly changing every day.

But when the time for growing ends at last,
And we start living mostly in the past,
And wish to cling forever and hold fast
It’s then we must let go and move away.

Perhaps we’ll meet again someday, I hope.
Even though there is no cord or rope
Binding us, I feel no urge to mope,
Because the love we’ve shared will never fray.

The Grave my little cottage is,
Where, keeping house for thee,
I make my parlor orderly,
And lay the marble tea,

For souls divided, briefly
A cycle, it may be,
Till everlasting life unite
 In warm society.
