ReplyDeleteHey! This is as shocking mixture of feminism and racism. Aren't the two supposed to be incompatible? I don't think it's right to post this kind of disgusting inflammatory trash these days. We're supposed to be past all that.
Your celebration of stupid bigotry is contemptible and an insult not only to our intelligence but to the customs and traditions of an Asian civilization that flourished long before your miserable troublemaking Jesus was born..
Lighten up, "Oh" Susanna
DeleteHe had rubies and pearls, and the loveliest girls
ReplyDeleteBut he didn't know how to do the rumba.
oh Susanna, don't you cry for me..
ReplyDeleteWell, it ain't Cheap Trick, but it's got a nice swing to it... ;-)
ReplyDeleteThere's nothing wrong with you, SilverFiddle, other than your having been born much much MUCH too late.
DeleteIt's a pity you missed all the real;y GOOD stuff.
Wait till you hear what i have lined up soon to shoot down the pike. It's time you got acquainted with AUTHENTIC American culture. ;-) THIS was just the beginning.
Ah oh....
DeleteSeriously, FreeThinke, I like that old music!
DeleteLove ragtime!
ReplyDeleteI'm not very familiar with this tune that you posted, FT. Oh, well.
ReplyDeleteMine. Love that honky tonk piano!
The story behind the song itself. I think that Stuart Hamblen sang the bass line in the Rosemary Clooney recording, but I could be wrong about that detail.
I was 2.5 years old when I discovered this song. During Hurricane Hazel while we were on vacation, my parents and I were stranded in West Virginia in a diner with a juke box. Finally, the manager of the diner set the jukebox to play "This Old House" non-stop.
I like the Stuart Hamblin version better, and I think Tennessee Ernie Ford is singing bass on his verson. Hamblin wrote that song, btw.
DeleteHere's the story of what inspired him, in his own words. Kinda creepy:
The story behind This Old house
SF,
DeleteHamblen's version is purer. It's the piano that attracted me to Rosemary Clooney's version.
Another one that I had on 78 RPM when I was a little girl. I still have the 78 -- and an RCA Victrola on which to play it.
ReplyDeleteAnd I mustn't leave out this one!
ReplyDeleteAnd Tennessee Ernie's "Sixteen Tons"! Man, what a voice!
ReplyDeleteOkay, I'm done now. Gotta get to the grocery store.
ReplyDeleteWhat a story that is behind the song, AOW.
ReplyDeleteWaylon,
DeleteI was unaware of the back story until today. Gotta love the Digital Age for things such as this!
