But again the external motivation for creating any work of art is nothing compared to the response it ultimately evokes. AOW,<br /><br /><i>What might the context be for the photo in this post?</i>.<br /><br />I thought that would be obvious.<br /><br />"Flag waving" is most often considered a sign either of sincere patriotism or mindless chauvinism.<br /><br />Frankly, I just thought it an exceptionally attractive picture among hundreds of available images of the flag, when I was rummaging around looking for possible illustrations related to the Fourth of July.<br /><br />The American Impressionist Childe Hassam made several vibrant cityscapes of cheering throngs enjoying parades on holidays calling for prominent displays of our flag.
